But it was also able to re energize the Abolitionists (which it did immensely) & it was vital in recruiting 200,00 Black Union soldiers for the war. Douglass even sent 2 of his sons after the proclamation.
It worked as those 200,000 Black soldiers were vital. So vital that the desperate South enlisted Black soldiers in the last month or so of the war, but it was far too late .
