Eric Reid has been one of the season's biggest disappointments. He has at times been a huge liability. He has certainly made some big plays in his career, but looks nothing like the first round draft pick he has been projected to be.

I do too, as well as a couple of playmakers in Claiborne and TM. Secondary play has been very below average this year.

This thread isn't an overreaction or anything.

Seriously. Mills and Collins have played GREAT all year. One bad game and they're fricking freshman. Did he just magically forget all the INTs/pass defenses they've made? They'll likely gain All-Freshman accolades in the SEC...that's pretty damn good.

Agree. We lead the SEC in interceptions. Have perspective.

Secondary isn't very good in general, and relied heavily on the defensive front to cover for it.

Younger guys shouldn't have been playing much anyway. Losing TM really hurt a lot.

AND our defense is ranked #13 IN THE COUNTRY in pass defense. Let's call back the dogs, guys.

I accept your explanation that they are playing well but something went really wrong last night so would you please help me understand what it was?

Chavis should have played a lot more 3 man fronts. I would have loved to see mingo lined up at the OLB position with Edwards, Montgomery, and Freak/Logan on the line. The 3 man front seemed to get much better penetration than our 4 man front.

Our DBs were getting worked, but they were not getting much help from the DLine. A number of the hitch and go plays were somewhat long developing and Wallace had a ton of time to scan the field.

Average DB play and average DLine play at the same time and on the same play.

You really think its all because of losing Ron Cooper? More along the line of losing TM, Claiborne, Taylor, and Brooks all in one year and having no proven depth to replace them.

bullshite. I've seen countless times Collins/Mills having perfect technique on deep balls when the front four failed to get pressure. And let's be realistic, this front four hasn't generated pressure close to what we thought they would this year. They're good but not what they should be. If anything, this young secondary is playing better than anyone expected...

We did get a new DB coach this year...
The new DB coach is not as good at coaching/teaching/adjustments as the old DB coach. I hear he's a "great recruiter" though, and an ex-LSU player to boot. That's it Les, hire those great recruiters and let all the great talent run around lost.

They are freshman and really athletically gifted, but it seems this is all they have to work with. The bad angles from the safeties...What the hell is going on with these guys? This is by far LSUs biggest weakness right now, and every team in the country knows it. LSU(DBU) let a very average SEC qb throw for nearly 400 yds on our home field. Unacceptable.

Mills and Collins were not the problem on Saturday. Simon was getting beat like a drum and Reid played terrible. All those deep passes, even the ones that weren't completed were on Simon.

I've seen countless times they haven;t. LSU misses Claiborne and TM. Go back and watch the games again and you will see the secondary play just isn't consistent.

Our lack of QB pressure at times makes the secondary look bad. Why we couldn't get more pressure on ole piss was frustrating. Our front four haven't lived up to all their hype.

This is also a problem. The last two defensive series when we really looked good we got pressure on the QB.
