The company gave them fair warning. They couldt stay in busuiness if the strike continued. The teamsters said they had looked at Hostess' books and warned the Union striking that this wasnt a ploy it was real, and they still striked

Unions hate workers and have the ULTIMATE "I got mine jack" mentality.
I've wathed one union after another accept future job restrictions in excahange for higher salaries/benefits NOW. UPS workers did just that when I lived in Louisville over a decade ago.
They could give a frick if their salaries mean that fewer people can work. They just want their shite now. Hell, they don't even care if their salaries may eventually bankrupt the company and kill off jobs as long as the bankrupting happens after they get theirs.

That's my experience as well, got chewed out for trying to change a light bulb in our booth in Chicago. We had to submit a formal maintenance request and wait until the 2 guys came by to fill out their paperwork and replace the bulb with the one we had in our closet. I have no idea how much they charged.

I was going to be reported to the big wigs for working through my break period to get a rush job done. I was planning on taking it once finished with the task. The union man working a particular bit of equipment improperly made me do the job five times as a result of him having the wrong setting to determine the metals uses to make it.

It's more of that -- they want to be FULL PARTNERS when times are good -- and get more than their "fair share" due to the "sweat on their backs" that produced that evil profit.
When times are bad, they simply want to be extremely overpaid employees, while management is completely responsible for all the loses.
So, when times are good, they threaten strikes knowing that the laws in are their favor and knowing that management has to capitulate or lose out on making profits during the good times.
When times go bad, they refuse to scale back and strike when management explains AND SHOWS that their current arrangement will drive the company out of business. But, they still strike and run the company into the ground because of the blackmail they used during good times.

We're not just talking about any human beings here, we're talking about Americans.
Also keep in mind that the union voted to strike, and I doubt it was unanimous.

WORKERS work for a pre-agreed monetary return on thier labor capital. Strikers are not working for a living, they are having a bitch fest. If the choose to not work which will effect thier ability to pay THIER bills it is thier own damned fault in bad decision making, and the result is on thier own heads.

Obama has an answer. Raise the cost of Twinkies for the rich and make them pay their fair share. I think the cost would be about $50.000 per twinkle, give or take.
