You definitely need to get out more. I know many liberals who would be happy with the govt grabbing as much control of the economy as they can get.
I think most liberals would be fine with govt taking over specific parts of the economy. Health, energy, etc. While not totally socialist, its definitely a lean.
Long gone are the days when liberal had more to do with liberty than the other guys.

I'll completely agree with you on 'sectors' being taken over - specifically health.
Still a big difference between big government liberals and real deal socialism, IMO.

If you mean "full blown" socialism I agree. I think many definitely lean toward socialistic tendencies though.
Those in my town would be perfectly happy if there wasn't a private sector job in the city.

Good post.
This country is divided between right and left liberals. Right liberals are more liberal on economics and less liberal on foreign policy and social issues. Left liberals are the opposite.
Sure, there are radicals of all kinds of stripes, but confusing liberals with radicals of various stripes is just a rhetorical ploy designed to scare people.

They are progressives now. For some reason they have retained the moniker of "liberal," despite the fact that they aren't liberals anymore.
I would like for the classical liberals to return.

Democrats =/= Liberals
Republicans =/= Conservatives

Both sides have a set of liberties they protect but both ideologies pretty much trample all over individualism and it's liberty in their current form

I don't consider liberals socialists but rather statists. They want a big arse government to take in a bunch of money and provide welfare and healthcare for the "needy". They think a few should provide for all and they think an incompetent government knows best on how to collect money and distribute it.

Liberals are SILENT on Obama's actions of the following:
- Patriot Act extension
- Expansion of Guantanamo
- More drone strikes than Bush in counties in which we have no declared war.
- Entering a civil war in Libya without congressional approval.
- Slow withdrawal from Afghanistan
- Wanting to extend the US presence in Iraq even LONGER than the original Bush timeline.
- More warrant less wiretaps than Bush.
- Raiding more LEGAL medical marijuana dispensaries than Bush.
- Claiming the power to assassinate American citizens without due process ( secret kill list )
Liberals for full of shit!
