Wealthy with a large economy and growing population primed for exploitation in the form of government largess? I doubt it. The saw what happened to California and have already taken some steps to avoid it. Huzzah for right to work legislation.

That changes quickly the second they leave. No major company would willingly operate there after Texas gets hits with sanctions and embargoes the likes of which will never have been seen before. Are you saying you'd like the US to bomb Exxon refineries and whole towns to show these frickers what's what?

It's not a matter of what I'd like. It's a matter of our protocols in the event something like this were to happen. I don't mean to imply I know what those protocols are but you can bet your butt that we wouldn't let Texas do it.

It sounded even crazier when I was typing it. But considering how anti-US the Russians are, they would likely back our (TX) play with military support. They would not be concerned with ideology, but they would love to see the USA fracture like their Soviet Union did. The likelihood of Russian aid would have to be plausible if a secession scenario of Texas is being discussed.

Yeah. Cause counting on aid from China screams "capitalism". I was surprised that these petitions have been going on since 2004 and 2008. Not sure who was wanting to secede in 2004 but I guess there are always a few out there.

A new poll out Friday shows that, should Texas Gov. Rick Perry decide the time is right for his state to secede, he might not have much support. Seventy-five percent of Texans would like to stay in the union, according to Rasmussen.

Uhh...you think the US army blowing up fellow Americans would be something anyone would tolerate watching 24 hours a day / 7 days a week? No way Washington has the nuts to fire a gun over this.

The secession talk is egregiously stupid IMO. Thinking the US would bomb Texas in response is at least twice as stupid.

Man where do I start.. so many shallow thinkers who don't know history. No wonder this Country is in such bad shape. I have said this before in other strings, but in short, first to answer "Decatur" about his "Rasmussen seventy five percent poll" claim of Texans would like to stay in the Union. You use a Rasmussen poll for arguement?? [Put that b.b. gun away, you might put somebody's eye out.] If our forefathers of this Country (the former USA) would have listened to you - there would never have been a USA. Did you know that only three percent - that is 3% - of the colonists wanted to break away from England? It was the "three percenters" that won American Independence. As for other shallow waders, Texas doesn't need permission from anybody. Texas will do what it damn well pleases. For the rest of the baby pool waders, we have our own power grid, we have the bulk of refineries, the rest of the Country cannot exist without Texas and Louisiana energy. They will not take them out, they cannot afford to. Bountiful revenue will come in with an import tax imposed on the former USA for every unit of energy that is sold across the Texas and/or Louisiana borders. The tables have been turned since the 1860's. The North has destroyed their manufacturing base through Socialism - the South now rules with energy. I will end this late hour blog with a learning literary lesson for all of you who struggle to understand Texas and Texans, from John Steinbeck: “I have said that Texas is a state of mind, but I think it is more than that. It is a mystique closely approximating a religion. And this is true to the extent that people either passionately love Texas or passionately hate it and, as in other religions, few people dare to inspect it for fear of losing their bearings in mystery or paradox. But I think there will be little quarrel with my feeling that Texas is one thing. For all its enormous range of space, climate, and physical appearance, and for all the internal squabbles, contentions, and strivings, Texas has a tight cohesiveness perhaps stronger than any other section of America. Rich, poor, Panhandle, Gulf, city, country, Texas is the obsession, the proper study, and the passionate possession of all Texans.” John Steinbeck
