hence the whole peacefully secede point. Nobody doubts that an armed insurrection would most likely result in failure.

Exactly, no one with any sense is calling for war, a peaceful secession is the way to go.

Bull Bollocks. China and or Russia would swoop in so fast with Military Hardware and support it would look like Red Freaking Dawn. Texas breaking from the USA would get the full financial and military support of Russia. Not saying it is a good thing...just saying it would happen.

You do realize that they're something like the 13th largest economy in the world right? If Australia, Mexico, and South Korea can have their own standing armies then so can Texas. And as for a lack of trading partners, you must not understand how the modern economy works. The amount of petroleum refining capacity alone would make Texas a major player is world trade.

That changes quickly the second they leave. No major company would willingly operate there after Texas gets hits with sanctions and embargoes the likes of which will never have been seen before. Oil refineries that have been destroyed by American missiles would never operate again. I don't think y'all have really thought this through, have you

If you think that the US would attack any state that secedes then you are an idiot. That would be the worse think they could do.

If they did that, they would immediately face armed revolt or at least civil unrest in every state.

Fact is the costs of secession for Texas are exponentially outweighed by the benefits of remaining in our Union Just pay your damn taxes and be proud to be an American

You are stupid. 1) Texas has no income tax. 2) Texas would be allowed to have whatever corporate tax rates it would like. Naturally it would be better than the USA. 3) an embargo by the USA would be the only country able to have an embargo. Why would other countries choose not to trade with Texas? Maybe pressure from the USA but look at the Middle East right now. Everyone defies the USA. 4) an influx of immigrants willing to work and be free would provide a competent labor force. 5) USA would be on an unsustainable path immediately without Texas. No oil revenues less refineries.. Etc.

Who is going to hit Texas with sanctions? The UN? China and Russia would veto and Security Council resolution out of spite. South and Central American nations wont do a thing because Texas is a primary link to the United States so they'll need good relations with Texas just to trade with us. NATO will treat it as an internal matter especially since most European economies are in such poor shape. As for a military response, I'll wager that is an order that is never carried out. I'm trying to think if there are any other countries that hate America that would benefit greatly from joining in and helping a state secede... Nope, thanks to Obama, I can't think of one. Everyone love us now.
