LSU managed to force them to field goals early on, rather than touchdowns.

Alabama made the same adjustments we made, in a sense. Just gave up TDs

How about winning the turnover battle: We won 5-0. Ala. lost 0-3. That's 8-0 differential..... Pretty much sums it up for me. I do know we simiply wouldn't let Manziel run in the 2nd half and we played very good pass defense.

LSU switched to the 3-4 alignment similar to Bama base defense but I do not know the difference in coverages. LSU seemed to always have someone in the flat in case JFF got around the end which he did a few times but was just corraled or run out of bounds for no gain. I simply chalked this up to our LB's being faster than Bama's.
I honestly think LSU's pass coverage was better than Bama's because JFF was not able to find a lot of prime receivers (i.e. had to check down a lot) and LSU brought pressure that forced his hand.
Also, this point was made by the game comentators. Bama despite being all world on defense does not have a big pass rush this year.

LSU's secondary is much better than Alabama.

You have to hand it to JFB....he made some money throws...

Great to have Texas A&M in the conference....Mizzou also...

If Lacy is nicked for Auburn game...who knows...

at no point in time did LSU have 4 LBs on the field.

it was a 3-2-6 with Eugene in the box and they would blitz eiter he or a LB and they did a good job holding their lanes and containing JFF to the box.

The extra DBs plus LSUs DEs running 4.6 fortys is why LSU held JFF in check and Bama could not. We had do much speed and athleticism in the box for him to make plays. Bama's defense doesn't have that speed up front.

we kept the ends back mostly and rushed up the middle...therefore our fast ends were able to contain.

bama rushed the ends for the most part and as soon Manziel was able to get around them everything was open.

Bottom line we just have a way better D than Bama. The proof was how we held A&M's offense in check. Bama gave up 20 points in the first fricking quarter. We just don't have as good as offense as A&M and they were able to jump on them quick..score early and often. If we would have jumped up 20 points in the first we would have blown Bama out. Congrats to A&M on that win..no hard feelings here they deserve credit and served up the Gumps on their home field.

Mostly because LSU is a far superior program than Alabama. I literally shat my pants realizing that I was in the same venue as Les Miles. Basically LSU should have beaten Bama like they kicked our arse and should get a NC bid.

It seemed to me that the defensive line didn't push too far up the field rushing the passer. Instead they held the OL at bay, kept an eye on the QB and shed the blocks when he started to make his move. That meant the QB had to spend more time eluding the DL, and got snagged when the LBs and DBs arrived in support.

Yes, the Mustang. After JF posted 17 quick ones. 3-2-6 plus speed/ahtleticism stopped them.

To be honest, we have better players on defense.

That's how.

We over ran the rush and left him holes to run into. ALmost every play Adrian Hubbard either got behind him and gave him the under on the outside, or he cut back in the middle and gave him the ENTIRE outside. I was screaming as loud as I could from the upper deck but they couldnt hear me.

This smacks a bit of sarcasm, but I will say that our main advantage on defense is speed and Bama focuses more on strength. Our DE speed kept JFB to less than 30 yards rushing.

Our linebackers had the sideline to sideline speed to prevent him from being able to runa nd could cover the mid range passes better.

Bama's biggest weakness is the fact that their linebackers are not good at defending the pass.

JFF was able to complete mid range passes against them, just like mett was able to do.

Also, You make them have to throw by shutting down the run, and McCarron is not as great as he was advertised.

Johnny Football had break out game. Virtually could do no wrong, put the ball in the receivers hands so that they had to catch it. They were also able to run the ball effectively which kept Bama guessing. Also three TD lead in first quarter tough to overcome.
