I'm no scheduling wiz; so, I don't know who was available, but FSU had West Virginia on the slate. WV had to back out because of the new Big 12 deal; so, enter Savannah St. But, with the WV suck of the last 4 weeks, it wouldn't have been much of a boost anyways.

So y'all used WVU cancelling as an excuse to schedule the worst FCS team in the country?

FSU has talent, but it would NOT be close if they played LSU or aTm. They need to fire Jimbo. He's never been a HC and gets the job at FSU. Unbelievable. There is a lot of animosity towards him here in Tallahassee.

No, I am saying it was the catalyst for playing the worst FCS team. We had a solid [at the time] FBS school scheduled in WV. It was announced that WV waws backing out in January. I don't know how many if any FBS schools are still looking to fill a spot at that point. They may have been able to get a better FCS team, but FCS is FCS.

Google the date they canceled on us. I believe we're still suing them. And yes they were about the only team we could schedule.

FSU, much like Oklahoma st last year, is not going to be able to overcome an "ugly" loss.
Especially with the schedule they've played... FSU had a nice clean path to Miami and bungled it up by losing to NCState, and now they are paying the price for that "nice clean path."

His team plays in one of the weakest AQ conferences, he had two FCS teams on his schedule this year, including hapless Savannah State which should be in division II, and now he's whining because his team isn't getting any love from the BCS computers. He should be put in a straitjacket for even suggesting that college football go back to the pre-BCS system in which the #1 and #2 teams would routinely play in different bowls. When Bobby Bowden was the coach, FSU never played such a pathetic non-conference schedule.

Not true. The conmputers wouldn't have punished you as much if you had scheduled Appalachian State or Youngstown State.

Can you quantify not much? One spot? 3 spots? As far as I know, only four of the six computer polls even count FCS teams. Two of those have FSU unranked, and the other two are 14th and 16th. If they played a solid FCS team, like say a 6-4 Towson squad, would they even be ranked in the polls that currently have them unranked?
The point is, some people are pointing to the OOC schedule, when that wasn't the problem. FSU had West Virginia, USF, and Florida scheduled. I'm sure the AD at FSU knows the ACC sucks, just happens that it is even more so this year. So, in addition to the UF staple, FSU usually has a at least one other solid OOC opponent on the schedule. West Virginia backed out late this year. But go ahead and blame the poor OOC. I'm sure FSU had FBS teams knocking down the door to play with <8 months notice. FSU was just scared.
Last 4 years' OOC schedule:
WV*, USF, and UF
OU and UF
OU, BYU, and UF
BYU, USF, and UF

Jeff Sagarin ranks North Dakota State #51, higher than eight ACC teams and ahead of 74 FBS teams overall. Savannah State is ranked #243, third to last of all FCS teams.
