Any suggestions?

S&W Shield. Good luck finding one though. I wanted one, couldnt find one, bought a XDs instead. No regrets. .45>9mm

get you a Ruger .380 with laser sight for about $450

I got a .45, want something a little smaller and cheaper.

What .45? The XDs is small. Some pocket carry it but I do not. Plus, you already have the ammo for it too. Small and light with very reasonable recoil.

I started a thread yesterday that has some good info and links in it. Probably on the 2nd or 3rd page.

I hear the Ruger SR9c has great reviews.

I really do love mine. It's a blast to shoot and great for carrying. Accurate and light don't hurt it either. It's like all the greatness of a 1911 but smaller.

Love this little guy too

glock 26 is my go to but a Keltec pf9 is good choice. light weight, polymer, single stacked mag in 9mm. can install a belt clip for easy conceal. You can pick one up sub $300.

It is tough to beat the Kahr single stacks for carry. The CW9 and CM9 are small, inexpensive and shoot great.

I don't have any experience with small 9mm luger, but I've had excellent luck with small Bersa .380 autos. Extremely reliable and the price is right (at least it WAS right many years ago).
In the 1980's, I and many of my cohorts carried Bersas as a concealed backup when working in marine/saltwater environments. Got them as reliable throwaway guns, except we didn't throw them away because the darn things kept on working despite severe neglect and abuse.
In fact, I still have an old Bersa 85 (15+1) with all sorts of rust pits all over it and very little blueing left...but it still works 100% of the time.

Plenty. The subcompact 9mm category of guns has exploded the past couple of years to accomadate the growing cc crowd.
Small (These are all single stack mags. I don't think most double stack mag guns are in the same "small" category as are single stacks.) All are DAO/striker fired, except for the 938 and 1911's which are SAO. Alphabetical order:
Beretta Nano
Bersa BP9cc
Kahr CM9/MK9/PM9
Kimber Solo
Ruger LC9
Sig 290/938
S&W Shield
ETA: Walther PPS
Micro 1911's w/ 3" barrel are small, but most are not very light. I'll defer to King Ranch or someone else for an evaluation of these guns.
Small and "cheap":
Diamondback DB9
Kahr CW9 (maybe not "cheap")
Kel-Tec 9PF
Kel-Tec P11 (actually a double stack mag gun, but still VERY small).
SCCY Industries CPX
I'm sure I missed some, but that should get you started. Off all the above, the only I have is a Kel-Tec PF9. It was the first gun I really used for cc and it's still part of my rotation. My experience w/ reliability has been good, although I understand that others have not been that lucky. Although I don't have a Kahr CW9, I use a Kahr CW45 as one of my main cc guns. I really like the CW45. Based on my experience w/ it, I can recommend the CW9 for consideration.

I use the Ruger LC9 with the Galloway trigger modification and a Crimson Trace Laser.

well.....the 3'' 1911 is a hot subject for most. they can have some ejection issues from the factory, i don't know why but most manufacturers can't seem to put an 18lb recoil spring in them. its an easy fix but still annoying.
as for the weight, most 3'' 1911's have alloy frames and are quite light relative to full size 1911 platform. the 3'' will weight something about 22-25oz with aluminum frame. the full size will weigh in at over 2lbs easily and probably close to 40oz.
