Downs is gone & it's prob 50/50 if Logan stays or goes. If he leaves, we've got Freak & Ego starting, w/ Mickey J. & Quentin T. rotating in. Seems a little weak & one injury to Freak/Ego away from being the weakest position group on the team. (plus I wouldn't be shocked if Freak was gone after '13 & there's chatter about Tevin Lawson not qualifying.)

Any gurus/insiders a little curious as to why we're not going balls out for a stud juco DT? I like that we saw the need & went & got Q. Leslie @ WR. Any Claude Wroten/Akeem Hicks out there we should've pressed hard for a signature?

Because JC Dt's are first off hard to evaluate. Chances are for every Wroten you get there will be three Toran Williams. Toran Williams was suppose to be the stud JC DT in the 01 class that we fought UF for in a heated battle. He never made the three deep even after red-shirting his first year. I can promise you if Mickey Johnson and Quentin Thomas were playing in JC the past two years they would be ranked in the top 15-25 players at worst. Toby Johnson is the only DT that has a chance to be LSU material next year, and I doubt he is better than Ego. Try selling a battle for second string to a JUCO player. Its more risk than reward unless you see somebody you really really like.

I don't care if they're JUCO or true FR, we desperately need DTs who.are ready to play next year and play well. If Logan leaves, we are extremely thin there. At a position that used to be the strength of the team. let's face it, Freak has not been the stud we expected yet, and Ego has been underwhelming. And we're counting on QT and Mickey to provide quality 2nd string reps after having never sniffed the field? DT--hell, the entire DL has questions not only at starters, but also depth. We need to hit on those rare FR that can contribute immediately and Moffittneeds to light a fire under some assed already here.

Downs has given valiant effort, but no of SEC calibur. The thing that disturbs me about him seeing so much pt is; what does that say about Freak?

The reasons for lack of depth in the middle next season are circumstances involving the 2009 and 2010 classes:

2009:
Brockers - great player, but declared for NFL as a RS soph

Downs - graduating; arguably should have redshirted as a true freshman

Davenport - moved to OL

Logan - great player, but could declare for NFL after this season

Also note that although his eligibility would have expired last season, 2009 recruit Hicks was dismissed from the team before ever playing a down.

2010:
Copeland - recruited for DL but moved to FB.

Ego - only DT from 2010 class

If Logan leaves early, Ego would be the only DT on the team next season from those two classes.
