Rumor: Matthew Vaughn in talks to direct new Star Wars film

Over the past seven years, Collider’s track record has been pretty good. The reason is, before we run any “scoop,” we always make sure to double source it so we know the information is accurate. However, the story we are about to run has not been confirmed, and I want to make sure everyone knows this is not 100%. I only decided to run this because I trust my sources and it’s Star Wars. In addition, while I spent all weekend trying to lock this story down, all my normal connections would not go on record (or they did not know), so this is going up as a “rumor” and “unconfirmed.”
I’m hearing that Matthew Vaughn, the director of Kick-arse, Stardust, Layer Cake, and X-Men: First Class, is in talks with Lucasfilm to helm Star Wars: Episode VII. My sources tell me this is the main reason he dropped out of the X-Men sequel (which Bryan Singer is now directing).

My brain envisioned Vince Vaughn for one brief WTF moment before realizing that this could be a good thing. X-Men: First Class was done really well and I can see the style translating.

I would be fine with this choice. Honestly X-Men: First Class is almost exactly what Episode I should have been, excluding Magneto forming the brotherhood that early.

I keep pretty good track of directors in general, but I honestly had no idea the same guy did First Class, Kick-arse, Stardust, and Layer Cake. Every one of those was a very good movie (Layer Cake probably the weakest, still very good). I would love this decision, and I hope they go all out and let him do all three.

It'll never happen.
He's free for the moment, so I don't see why he's any less likely than any other candidate.

Would be a great choice, an out of left field hire, and would probably make it amazing, let's hope it's true.

I feel a disturbance in the Force. Layer Cake is the dog's bollocks.

Almost every director has a shite film. I'll let it slide.

I liked Layer Cake, a lot. What's not to like?
