quote:I agree that firing Les Miles would be somewhere south of optimal. At the same time, I agree he coaches scared at times (like the Prevent/soft defense he threw up at Bama in the last 90 seconds and let them score - like forcing that stupid 54 yard fg attempt instead of punting to pin them down deep). But then he had just wasted a chance at 3 from a lot closer in with a doomed fake. So some of the posters along here say he coached opposite of scared last night.
it's just mind-numbing that he's still coaching scared AND that he makes such stupid playcalls so often. there has to be a way to get him to stop doing both short of firing him
I say both sides are right. I think this is a bi-polar coach, who coaches in two tracks at once and never knows which track to take or which one he has been in.
What I'd like to see A.D. Aleva do is lay down the law.
1) A real and credible OC hire this year (start looking right now). If that means Stud and Krag go, then they go.
2) Agree to serve primarily as HC/Recruting Head, relinquishing game day play by play coaching to the OC/DC.
3) Take real steps to upgrade the player development program for skill players (like receivers and QBs), with results that can be measured and seen on the field during gametime. If that means firing some and hiring other staff to achieve this goal, then do it.
Unless something like this is mandated from above and backed by the LSU administration and TAF, Les Miles will continue to coach the way he has. And LSU will see great talent wasted and golden opportunities like last night (and 1/9) squandered on a regular basis.
