Funny how when people look back they think SF was the team of the decade, Montana was the GOAT and assume they dominated every year.
81 - SB Champs
83 - Lost NFC Title game
84 - SB Champs
85 - Lost Wildcard playoff
86 - Lost Division playoff (Montana knocked out)
87 - Lost Division playoff
88 - SB Champs
89 - SB Champs
90 - Lost NFC Title Game (the Roger Craig fumble while running out the clock to victory.)
4 SB Titles
6 NFC Title game appearances
Playoffs every year except the strike year of '82
To be fair, I'd say that's pretty dominant in a league so full of parity like the NFL.

The 49ers should have had a threepeat. That team would have easily beaten Buffalo.

It certainly is, especially when you look back on it. But on Nov 21, 1988 the 49er's played the defending SB champion Redskins. Both were 6-5. The Saints lead the NFC West at 9-3. Thru the 87 seasons the Redskins had gone:
82 8-1 SB Champ
83 14-2 Lost SB
84 11-5 Won NFC East, lost in Divisional Round
85 10-6 Tied for first in NFC, missed playoffs
86 12-4 Wildcard, lost NFC CG
87 11-4 Won Super Bowl
So during the 88 season it was still debatable who was the team of the decade. The Redskins lost that MNF game and finished 7-9, while SF won the SB and the next and was the team of the decade.
There was not parity in the 80's like there is today. It was more competitive than the 70's but still a handful of dominant teams. Either SF or Wash was in the NFC CG every year except 85 (chic-Rams) from 81-91. The NYG made it 3 times, Dallas and LA twice.

the loss of Buddy Ryan hurt the Bears. They also used the same model as the Ravens. How many titles do the Ravens have?
There is a reason a dynasty is special. You need one hell of a coach, great QB (Bears did not have), a line of good coordinators because you will lose at least 2, and LUCK!!
Can't blame Ditka for all of that. Dent should enjoy his ring and being Richard Dent just like Ditka is doing.
