It's a huge honor to be a Tomb Guard, and competition for it is intense.

I believe they must meet height and weight restrictions as well. I think they must be between 6'0" and 6'2".

Soldiers of the 3rd Infantry Regiment

Despite the worsening weather conditions, soldiers remained to guard the tomb, which has been guarded continuously since 1948.

As of this time, there are no plans to remove the guards from their posts.

Just saw a link on the twitter feed I found this on that the pic was actually taken in September.

I know they are still out there, and no photographer is crazy enough to get out in that storm to take their photo. Regardless, God bless them for still being out there.

The changing of the guard is truly one of the greatest things i've ever seen. If you haven't seen it, i suggest you do.

Yes, it's awesome. Just being at Arlington is an amazing experience that everyone should have.

ARLINGTON, Va. (WTVR) – A picture of guards standing at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery is being re-tweeted around the internet as Hurricane Sandy dumps rain on Virginia.
The picture appears to have been uploaded around 10:30 Monday morning on to a Virginia man’s Facebook page. The Facebook profile identifies the man as a member of the U.S. Army Band.
“Thank you to all of our followers for the kind words this morning. Old Guard Soldiers are currently conducting modified funerals in Arlington National Cemetery, filling sand bags for contingencies, guarding the Tomb, and important support tasks such as continuing to operate the dining facility and aid station,” read a message posted on the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) page.

What an awesome pic. I went to the Tomb 7 times while I lived in DC and would go another 7 if I could. To me it's the most sacred place in America.
