This is amazing. I do have a question though, I understand it is a great HONOR to man this post. However, do the rules change for bad weather? Meaning, are these guys that have pissed off their commanding officer so as punishment they are to stand out in one of the worse storms of all time. Not being funny and I respect these guys more than I can say.

Butch commented on it on page 1: it's called the First General Order (which every soldier learns in the first couple of weeks of basic) I will guard everything within the limits of my post and quit my post only when properly relieved.

Google the history of the guards and what exactly they go through. One part is that they can't watch tv for the first year.

Just the opposite. They didn't piss anybody off. It's a huge honor to be a Tomb Guard, and competition for it is intense. They are allowed to take shelter if conditions get really hazardous, IIRC. But they'll stay out there if at all possible.

The monument reads: HERE RESTS IN HONORED GLORY AN AMERICAN SOLDIER KNOWN BUT TO GOD There is actually several unknowns there. The monument doesn't have an official name. Also known as "The Tomb of the Unknowns."

granted .. the guy did ask an incredibly dumb question .. but the typical, subsequent, OT follow the leader pile on to bash the guy was almost as dumb as posting "IN" ..

The changing of the guard is truly one of the greatest things i've ever seen. If you haven't seen it, i suggest you do.
