What's keeping it from happening?
Do you think it would flourish?

I'd go.
But I don't know if there is a big enough market for it. I mean, how many fans do the Hornets get? And supposedly basketball has a bigger following than baseball in this country.

I'd venture to say baseball is bigger than basketball here. I guess it depends on where it'd be located.

It'd be awesome to have a team somewhere between Houston and Atlanta.
But the support wouldn't be there. 82 games a season is a lot to afford, especially with 2 other acts in town.

If the state would have had one back in the old days like other cities it would have came up and had a big following.
Now not so much.

1. Not enough population base.
2. Poor infrastructure
3. Not enough financial backing
4. Too small of media markets
Yes, it would flourish culturally, but if the owners priced out the market(charged too much for tickets) and the team was consistently lousy, it would be a massive flop.
What I would like to see is a team (Louisiana Pelicans) with their stadium being in Gonzales or Prarieville so it can be relatively convenient for fans from New Orleans, Lafayette, and Baton Rouge.
I'd like to see them have a Blue and Gold color scheme like the Louisiana state flag.

Absolutely not.

I guess it would take a fan-friendly, ethical man to run the show. And I could see a team coming out of Gonzales. I also had Lake Charles in mind as a baseball city but that's so out of the way.

I would be all over it. It wouldn't work though.

When I make my mega millions, this will be one of my passion projects.

This will sound racist, but there are too many black people in the deep south to allow an MLB franchise to be successful in Louisiana, Mississippi or Alabama. You could certainly add Arkansas, Tennessee and Kentucky into the mix. Hell, look at the Braves.. historic franchise with a history of success and they still have problems selling tickets.

I think that has much more to do with the fact that much of the population is transplants, similar to fans in Dallas and Houston.

Kenner to Gonzales is only 45 minutes. On some nights, it takes less time to get from East Jeff to the AP than it does to get from Metairie to the CBD. They will come if you have good marketing, cheap tickets, cheap(ish) beer, and a fun game atmosphere. Plus, Ascension Parish is baseball country. Every male child starts playing baseball from the age they can walk. If there was an MLB team, I think there could be a great core of middle class plant workers that would show up in droves with a little clever marketing.

I'm still kind of surprised that the Zephyrs are still around to be honest.

You guys do have pro baseball. It's called the New Orleans Zephyrs.

Zephers stadium location is terrible. No one wants to fight Metairie traffic, needs to be right off the interstate.

No way it'd be successful. We're just not a baseball state. Football rules, both professionally and collegiately. The Hornets have a pretty good following, but it's not like the whole state is really into it.
