The 4am is pretty strongly opposed and seen as benefitting only the casino, might pass. But I will be EXTREMELY surprised if Sunday doesn't pass. I'm all for being able to go watch the game at the bulldog.

re: Extending Bar Closing Time & Sunday Bar Opening Back On Agenda Tonight In BR

i haven't seen anything on a separate permit for bars to be open on sunday .. i saw the $40K permit for the extended hours .. that does reek of Bones being paid by pinnacle .. that's chump change for a casino .. but how many small bars in BR are going to be able to afford that ??

i'm sure there will be some extra permit fees for bars to be open on sundays .. let's hope it isn't as ridiculous as this ..

Nah from what I have been reading and the people I have been talking to it wouldn't be a fee on Sunday and it would apply to all retailers of alcohol. But it would be up to each individual establishment as to what they choose to do on Sunday. I can say that there are a few places I have talked to that would be open on Sundays and have live jazz brunch, be open for Sunday football, and book concerts. Much like the house of blues in NOLA does. It would be pretty neat with some of the ideas some of these places have if they're able to be open on Sunday.

A 4 a.m. closing time at least for Tigerland is a pretty scary idea. Very rarely does anyone need to be out there past 2. More potential alcohol poisoning, fights, dwis, pedestrian/vehicle accidents (if you've driven anywhere near tigerland around 2 sober or drunk you know), increased chances of hazing gone wrong, etc. Elsewhere, I could see it as a benefit to patrons and business owners, but not with an immature drinking crowd like that. (Maybe Bogies if its 21 only for the night.)

i.e. something very very good for the local economy here in baton rouge .. yet another avenue of sales tax revenue generation for the parish .. something to add to the quality of life in a city that most will tell you is boring for a city its size .. an opportunity for the parish to take a step in the direction of progressiveness .. we'll see just how much our council understands that tonight ..

Is the CCCC still lurking around campus? You know, the one the got Cups banned from Tiger Stadium and was behind the Drink Special ban in the first place?

like i said earlier .. that $40,000 extended hours permit is going to stymie a lot of bars from taking advantage of it .. i know there's no way ownership at reggie's can afford that ..

You'd be surprised. All those bars are collectively owned by a few people. (like 2 groups between all of em I think) Wouldn't be too hard to to just designate even 1 of them to stay open past 2 for them to benefit monetarily.

Bars open til 4AM = more/drunker drunks on the road = more DWI revenue.

Seems like a win/win for both sides.

The catch on that 40,000 or mayhe more fee is that if the measure is passed and bars buy those permits, then the money is ear marked to hire more ABC board personnel. 40.000 is enough to hire a full time person. That would be the casinos, no place in tiger land/ E Boyd or even the varsity is going to buy that. The idea club reg or any other one of those bars will be open late is a fallacy

it just comes down to will you generate more than $3,333 in profit per location being open an additional 12 hours a week in the middle of the night ... remember, they are selling booze, not cars .. that's a lot of drinks for that time of night .. i know a few of those guys, and i don't think they are going to take the hit it would cause in their everyday lifestyle ..

exactly .. that is what i am saying .. just the three casinos and some upper end places with decent food revenue can really swing that .. the reason the college bars are profitable is because the overhead is low compared to other places .. people don't realize how big another $40K a year would be to them ..

JL and co. could probably swing it with their side activity funds. But probably not worth the headache of it all for several reasons.

This makes sense providing that the fee is yearly? Skimmed over everything, did not see if it was specified or not. My opinion was under the impression of 1 time.

i always wondered this about the drinking times...does the AP have a similar 2am rule?

in LC bars don't have a closing time except saturday nights (2am). over here, on saturday after 2am, people just drive to this cluster of bars located right outside the city limits

yeah, i just went back and saw that .. didn't realize it was only three nights .. so there's no way the college bars can generate enough in the extra 6 hours a week they'd be open to justify that $40K nut ..
