all iphone apps work on the ipad, but either in a tiny window or scaled up. iPad apps only work on the iPhone if it s a universal binary made for both.

What are the percentages of those?

What I mean is what % of apps work on both devices. What % are solely iPhone? Solely iPad?

I honestly don't know. I hope those questions aren't too morally superior when GFunk reads them.

You're saying it's exactly the same, only different.

I'm saying it's exactly the same function, just in a smaller size.

If that's not true, I have no problem standing corrected.

Sorry if I "ruined" your thread...no shit, it wasn't my intention, dude.

Then that's what you should have asked.

To answer that, for the average consumer, not much except price and portability. The main focus today will be about education and iBooks. Cheaper iPad means schools will be more apt to adopt the iPad platform. Make no mistake, Apple doesn't release products for people, the release products to grow their bottom line. The iPad mini will do great things for Apple's bottom line.

There we go...an actual reason.

What's better about it than an iPad? Are iPads tough to take on planes? (what I mean is: is their size annoying sometimes for there to be a need for a smaller version)

iPad, iPad Mini and iPod touch appear to be all the same thing but different sizes

it's the three bears of technology

I figured that was kinda implied when I agreed that a smaller version of the iPad is basically an iPhone (which it is to a large degree).

I think initially the problem was you felt like I was charging into the thread like RamRod or some shite.

I have no clue. You said you have an iPhone, right? Have you ever noticed the apps that have a little plus sign in the price? Those are universal binary apps that work on the iPhone and iPad.

Some app makers still release separate binary's so they can charge for each and/or at different prices.

my ipad is a little big for me to carry on the plane for my taste, i don't mind it really but it sounds like the mini will be a little easier to tote especially if i'm just planning on reading.

Never noticed that. But it looks like a good majority of the apps work on both.

See, it baffles me that someone who owns an iPad and (I assume) an iPhone would even remotely want to buy an iPad Mini. I feel like you already have two, so why get another one.

And I'm talking about in terms personal taste...of course I realize that people can spend their money on whatever the hell they want. And I have no problem with that...I just don't understand why they'd want to.

iPads aren't that big to begin with, but you'd rather bring a smaller device to read on? That's just wild to me.

Any hardcore reader would prefer to have an e-ink device, any person that wants multimedia likes the 10" device because they already have a mini version in a phone.

I agree with Steve, 7" isn't necessary for Apple, but it will get them into the "I'm a cheapass and won't buy the 10" ipad because it is way too much money for me to spend" market.

I am in the market for a tablet.

The price point on the new iPad is too high to justify it to myself as a "toy" purchase.

The mini will have a lower price point and be more portable. Two things that I want and like in the 7" tablet market.

I am looking into the mini very closely. Thats where the market is. People like me.

me personally I just like having options, but i could see someone not wanting to drop more $ on the bigger ipad, but wouldn't mind spending less on the ipad mini.

i like holding the kindle to read it's the perfect size, i don't really use my ipad that much , just if i'm laying on the couch web surfing, i could really do without it. I like to have the ipad in places like the duck camp and places where i don't want to take my $3k mac air and risk it getting destroyed.

And that makes sense, no doubt.

Although I do think Apple knows that it's also for fans of Apple who will buy the new products regardless. I have several friends who are like that actually.

Coco,

This reply is huge. People want Apple products. They are "cool" and in style or whatever. I personally don't give a shite about the iPad mini. The key is many people want an Apple iPad and they will now be able to afford one more easily. It's simple economics and Apple will continue to profit from it. They will make MORE MONEY. I don't blame them and that is really the bottom line.

FTR, I do not want an iPad Mini. I thought about getting my wife one because she uses the frick out of her iPhone, but then I remembered that she doesn't care for technology and chooses to surf the web on her 3Gs rather than on the new iPad, macbook air, or mac mini attached to a 24" screen laying all around her.
