Boucherie - Review with Pics

I'm kinda late on this because I suck at giving detailed reviews, but I had my birthday lunch at Boucherie last Friday.. per Glassman's advice. (You haven't steered me wrong yet, Glass.. Patois, Coquette, now Boucherie).

The restaurant itself was adorable tucked away in a residential neighborhood. We purposely went for lunch because I heard the dinner gets packed and they don't take reservations. It wasn't too crowded for lunch, so we were seated immediately. (Side note: They close their lunch at 3:00 and the place seemed to get most packed right before then. I hate when people do that.)

Drinks: I just got a couple beers while there. Hitachino Nest White Ale and a Blanche de Bruxelles. Their small beer list had some good ones on it, so that made me happy.
Jones got a Bloody Mary. It was STRONG and in a very large glass. He seemed to enjoy it.

Food: Started with the mussels. We get mussels anywhere that serves them just to compare (and because I LOVE them). These may have been the best I've ever had. The broth was delicious, and there were generous amounts onions and cooked greens. I made sure to get some of it on each mussel.

We actually went back and forth about entrees forever, but finally came to a decision.

Jones ordered the smoked scallops. They were atop pan-fried red beans, which was pretty cool. I tried them, but like always, I was happier with my own food. They were delicious; just not what I was craving. Also came with plantain chips.



I ordered the cornish hen, which was delicious. It had a really strong smokey flavor and I love that. It comes with sauteed kale, but the server told me they were out of kale and asked if they could substitute mustard greens instead. Didn't really matter to me. I will say I just don't like my greens barely sauteed. Tasted raw. Meh. It also came with a plaintain arepa.. again, meh. I'm not a plantain fan, and everywhere I go lately seems to use it a lot.
The stuff it came with didn't really matter, though, because the cornish hen was delicious and all I really cared about.



I had decided that if we got dessert, we would get the Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding, but I never have room for dessert. We're both small eaters.

The server was very knowledgeable about everything, which helped a lot when we were debating between dishes. He also knew exactly when to come to the table, which I like. I hate being hovered over.

Overall, it was a pleasant experience. I definitely wouldn't complain about going back. The prices were also very reasonable for what you get, which is a plus.

I love nice restaurants, but I always have to eat dinner about an hour before we go b/c of serving sizes like that. I hate being hungry and being served three mouthfuls of food.

What makes you think they don't take reservations for dinner? I've done it myself.
