My first LSU game Lou Holtz coached Notre Dame. Tim Browns junior year, 1986 I think.
We beat them in close game. Been a tiger ever since.

When LSU hired Arnsbarger, Spurrier came to LSU without invitation and interviewed with Bob Broadhead. Members of the Board of Supervisors who just had fired Stovall, wanted Holtz who called Broadhead repeatedly and did not even get an interview. Arnsbarger was on staff of Dolphins and could not publicly accept the LSU job. although he had committed to Broadhead.

Holtz (know as 'Screwy Louie' in the coaching circles) has been pissed ever since. This also explains some of Spurrier's comments. After LSU turned SS down, he took the HC job in USFL.
