There really isn't much talent on the market that makes a lot of sense. Why spend $5 - $15 mil just to pick up 7 or 8 games -- end of the day, you're still a 100 loss team.

I say, keep the payroll as low as possible, pull in all of the draft choices -- maybe even pay the luxury tax this year by drafting some of those "hard to sign players" that slip each year because they have scholarships to the top-tier colleges. Unfortunately, the Astros won't be competitive until 14, and even then they'll only be a .500 team. They no longer have any trade prospects... so, it's time to over-spend on high-upside draft picks.

And, lower beer and ticket prices for home games.

You need to be semi competitive, you have a brand image to keep up. Also having a strong veteran presence in the club house is extremely underrated. Your team culture is very easy to manipulate right now with lots of young guys and a new coaching squad, its important to have it go in the right direction.
