TOP ACTIVE COLLEGE FOOTBALL COACHES IN AMERICA
(in current position, with minimum 5-yr record at major-conference school)
Rank, Coach, School, Tenure, Record, Win %, Miles vs.
1 Nick Saban, Alabama, 5+ yrs, 61-12, 83.5%, 3-3
2 Les Miles, LSU, 7+ yrs, 81-19, 81%
3 Bob Stoops, Oklahoma, 13+ yrs, 143-35, 80%
4 Mack Brown, Texas, 15+ yrs, 142-41, 78%
5 Bret Bielema, Wisconsin, 6+ yrs, 65-21, 76%
6 Marc Richt, Georgia, 11+ yrs, 111-39, 74%, 2-2
7 Frank Beamer, VA Tech, 25+ yrs, 213-101-2, 67%, 1-0
8 Bill Snyder, Kansas St, 20+ yrs, 166-82-1, 66.5%
9 Mike Gundy, Okla. St, 7+ yrs, 62-32, 66%
10 Mark D'Antonio, Mich. St, 5+ yrs, 48-25, 66%
11 Steve Spurrier, S. Carolina, 7+ yrs, 62-36, 64%, 3-0
And, although he is now in his first year at Ohio State, Urban Meyer is still active and would be in a statistical tie with Les Miles, based upon his 6 years at Florida.
2a* Urban Meyer, at Florida, 6 yrs, 65-15, 81%, 3-3
It is also very interesting to note that:
Even with the loss at Florida this year, had LSU beat Alabama in the BCS title game, Les Miles and Nick Saban would be statistically tied at the top, with winning percentages of 82%, and Miles would have a 4-2 record against Saban.
That's just how close Les Miles is to being at the very top of active, major-conference coaches in America, in his current 7+ yr tenure at LSU.
Just a little perspective for Tiger Fans....

Yeah we need perspective every waking fricking moment. I give the credit for LSU's wins to the players, the assistants, the money the athletic program allows to be paid towards our assistants, the fan base and Les Miles. Stop acting like Les miles is solely responsible for every win LSU has ever had during his time at LSU.

There's that damn Nick Saban again.

Bama had 50 wins starting this season since 07. How did you come up with 61?

LSU leads BCS/SEC programs in wins since 05.

either top 2 or in the bottom 5 depending on the week and who you ask

He's number 1 in my book since he's ours and loves being here...has no "want" to be elsewhere. And, statistically, he's in the top 5 of anybody with a brain.

as much as I have been critical of Leslie, I honestly would only take 1 coach over him on this list and Spurrier back during his Florida days. Thats only 2 coaches: Saban and Spurrier.

I'm a Les Miles fan because of the man and guy he is and how he relates to the young men at LSU and that he allows his assistant coaches to coach with one exception.
The way he inserts himself into the offensive scheme and play calling. We've had Jimbo Fisher, Crowton, Kragthorpe, & Stud, and without question Les's fingerprints are all over stifling these guys from what they want to do so that they run the "Les" Big Ten offense of line up and run at you and dominate you at the line of scrimmage.
Don't get me wrong, I love it when it works, and it's worked over 80% of the time but against a Muschamp/Saban type defense it doesn't and until we can win against those guys by adjusting our approach we will not get the big prized we are physically capable of getting.
I totally blame our scheme for the red zone ineptness and lack of offensive production the last few SEC games.
If Les doesn't adjust, we are not going to beat Bama.

Woulda, shoulda, coulda...This is my point exactly. Thanks for making it. CLM is second to Saban. If this does not gnaw at all Tiger fans then nothing will. These are the claims that those satisfied with second place will make.

it's THIS thread again…. we REALLY needed to discuss Miles' W/L record again, too…. i mean, there hasn't been a thread like this in like 4 hours, so we probably would have had a meltdown if not for your brilliance, PP….
for frick's sake, can we let it go, that yes, Miles, STATISTICALLY, has a high ranking…. but as far as being a good X's and O's coach, being able to adapt to an opponent in game, etc., he leaves A LOT to be desired and there are many, many coaches out there that could walk circles around him….
Miles= great recruiter, great family man, great with managing the program, good with the players, but bad at clock management (still), bad at gameplanning, bad at X's and O's, mediocre with playcalling….
