From where I was, which was fairly close to the play it looked like a horrendous phantom call like the Packers/Seahawks game, but it's hard to tell in person. Flashbacks of Auburn 04 and 06.

Was there contact? What was the story?

The announcers said he "intended" a helmet to helmet play. He lead with his head.

He intended ahahahahaha

Refs can now penalize suspected intent.

ref's threw a flag on the "intent".

never saw that before.

that's like calling holding on a lineman with no arms claiming "if he had arms, he would have held the dt"

He went in head first for a shoulder high knock out shot on a wide receiver.

The human missile missile missed but got the flag anyway.

Seriously? It was "intent?"

No slippery slope there. I've never heard of that before at any level of football.

It seems silly but as someone else mentioned it is similar to when a player swings at another but misses. The ref is going to call it regardless of whether it hit because the intent was there. Unfortunately he brushed against the WR as well.

It is a technicality that could have been ignored given that the refs ignored many borderline calls that should have been called on SC.

If you remember Loston had another penalty of "intent" in a game last year

Refs seem to like to flag him for "targeting"

I don't remember that, not saying you're wrong, I just don't remember.

I get throwing a punch, but you could basically call "intent" on almost every play if you wanted.

I want to say it was against Arkansas last year

He was going after the WR and jumped over him an the ref flagged him for "intent" because his helmet was down

I honestly don't know what to think of that call. It sure looked like Loston was trying to kill the guy after he went out of bounds.... BUUUTTT for that to be the case Loston would have to have the worst aim in world history. I mean how to you miss a guy out of bounds that isn't trying to dodge you?

The contact would never have been called except for the fact that it looked like he tried to hit the guy!
