I would put a stand in an area that I could see a long ways. As you see deer move you can place additional stands to cover those areas.

Near water and edges of woods clearings.

Thats what I was thinking but the idea of just picking a random tree to climb and hope something came by wasn't sitting to well with me. I've always scouted and made informed decisions, but this year I've been slacking. We'll see what happens I guess.
