Well then. Let's turn that around. BTHog, cop thread master himself, said that he's held approximately 200 drugged out perps at gunpoint. Out of that 200 he shot and killed one. Without the video evidence, those numbers should lead one to doubt whether the used of deadly force was necessary in this case.

true, but I also noted that it was the ONE time I was one on one with such a person.

quote:

The response is that a cop approaching any suspect does has no way of knowing if this perp is the 1 deadly threat out of 200. Does not the same logic hold true for the citizenry and the police? More so considering the disproportionate level of power? How is the citizen being approached by a cop to know that he is not the one deadly threat (to his life, or rights) out of 200?

That would be a fair question if cops were high when you encountered them, otherwise it's not a valid comparison.

Your comprehension is not that great. The being high is irrelevant for the point other than being contextual to the conversation.

Of course I could be snide, and mostly accurate, and say they are high on power.

There is no need to act like a child, my comprehension is fine. you were comparing a situation of high suspects and sober cops uncomparable.

But let's look at this way. What percentage of people that cops encounter do you think go out of their way to make the cops job more difficult than it needs be? I could of course say "all people who encounter cops are a-holes", but that is no more true than saying all cops are a-holes is true.

Now, back to the actual topic of this thread. Anyone who has not had to try to apprehend a high suspect who has already reportedly attacked someone and is behaving erratically really needs to just shut up.

Oh , and as a person who has had to kill another person, let me tell you this officer is playing what if in his mind every day and doesn't need anyone second guessing him.

You never did answer my question. Do you understand why it is that this attitude makes people hate cops and why it is dangerous to the citizenry that you are supposed to protect?

I guess I just never hated anyone that didn't give me a reason to. I don't like to blame someone for other people's sins.

And it was not only an answer to your question, but additionally, the offer to assist you in employment within that department if you so desired.

I have a job that I am happy with but I fail to see how it was an answer to my question. You mentioned the officers at BPD being in shootings often. I asked about numbers and you counted to ten. Now maybe I'm dumb, but it would be helpful if you explained that one a little bit.

You're framing this as hate, not me. I don't hate anyone. I don't need to hate anyone for any of my points to remain true and valid.

Cops should not be viewed as individuals (within the context of their work) because they primarily act as collective (especially when you throw in the blue line of silence). When LSU lost this weekend did you say Zach Mettenberger lost or LSU lost? If the latter, is that blaming Kevin Minter for the loss?

I was actually quoting you when I spoke of hate, so I'm not sure it's fair to say that I am framing it this way.

Cops are individuals even within their work. I'm not sure how you can use the analogy of a football team to apply to all cops. That just doesn't work.

I apologize if I missed a question you asked. I'm not ignoring anything, even though most of the hatred in these type threads needs to be ignored.

People who hate cops are stupid. It's just that simple.

Cops who do bad things as cops, would do bad things no matter what job they were doing. Do you have a suggestion to make sure bad people don't become cops? I sure don't.

You're right. Sorry didn't realize I'd used hate.

I think you are choosing to see this only from your perspective and failing to see it from the other side. You may view yourself as an individual within your work and you may be judged by your superiors as an individual (just as an individual player may be judged by his coach as an individual). But we're talking about the relationship between cop(s) and citzenry which is pretty decently analogous to a football team to it's fans in this context.

This is in no way an answer to the question that I'm asking. You don't want to be criticized or judged by those who have never done your job. I'm suggesting this is a major problem for someone doing your job and potentially dangerous and helps contribute to the general dislike of cops. Do you understand why that is?

Let me use another analogy. Are you pleased with Obama as president? Do you feel you have no right to criticize, judge, or comment on his performance?

You typed.......
quote:

Can we talk in numbers? LINK

Since there is no way to actually talk on a message board, I typed numbers, which was what you asked me to do. Maybe I should have typed ten-four, or 10-4.

re: Student shot on USA campus was on LSD
I see myself as an individual because I am one. Think of your career. Are you on the same team as everyone who is corrupt in your line of work? Are you the same person as them? I condemn corrupt cops, but yet I am still one of them? I just don't see how that's fair. I am not guilty of the sins of others just as you aren't.

I still don't know what question you're asking. Just ask. I'll answer.

In other words, you knowingly didn't answer the question and then posted later that you did answer the question. You posted that BPD cops are often shooting people. I just wanted to know the numbers.

And we're back to the same point I'm trying to make with HOG. There is a MAJOR difference between your job and almost any other job that makes it impossibly to compare. The fact that you guys don't see that or acknowledge it is what is very troubling to me and others.
