You're clearly an expert. Having lived in Seattle for 4 years, I feel like I can confidently say that you're exaggerating. We're currently in the middle of a 70+ day streak with one rainy day, and it rained for about 2 hours.

you're having your indian summer right now. but for the most part, me and everyone i talk to can say it's gray/ drizzly 85% of the time. you're a little bit different than portland not being surrounded by mountains.

Baton Rouge and New Orleans get almost twice as much rain as Seattle does. It's a running joke up here that people don't talk about the weather because they don't want more people to move here.

It is gray a lot during fall/winter/spring. It doesn't seem too bad to me during the fall and early winter, but it starts to wear on me during the spring each year. I still think this weather is much more livable than a city like Chicago though with their brutal winters

Portland has a notoriously high unemployment rate, it's hard to get a joby job out there. seem's like everybody is an artist or restaurant owner or some kind of entrapenour

you are comparing total rain for the year, it's a common mistake

compare rainy days and sunny days and you will get different results

misleading. baton rouge and new orleans have sunshine-y days with one hour of heavy rains. everyone knows how it is there. you have a beautiful summer day and then out of the blue the skies darken, and it absolutely shits on you for like thirty minutes.

in seattle and portland, it's those gray days that feel like you're walking through a cold mister. and it's like every day.

most people in portland talk about how the two months of the beautiful summer make it worth while. except in years like 2011 where the summer never came.

It is gray a lot, but it doesn't rain as much as people think. We'll get maybe one week total of bad winter weather as well. If things line up right, there might be 5 days in a row with snow on the ground, but that's about it. I would take these winters over anywhere in the midwest or the northeast.

i really like Seattle. I could totally live there. Maybe not Portland. Artsy but too small.

But the point is though, really. be prepared for it to be gray most of the time. some people it doesn't bother. some people it really does.

Yeah, having lived in both places there is definitely more sunshine in LA. The main difference in rainfall is that it never rains hard here. People would freak out if they experienced a heavy thunderstorm style rain like we'd get back in southern LA. I still prefer the weather here though. I hate that miserable suffocating heat

hey i brought detroit into the argument. but i love detroit. i love the old buildings and history. and that you can buy a skyscraper for $100.

i also wouldn't mind being part of the rejuvenation of a city like detroit.

but i'll take that as part of the argument.

We get a lot less sunshine, yes. But it really doesn't feel like it rains a lot. When it does, it doesn't usually change your plans because it is more of a mist. It's not for everybody, but I don't mind it. The summers here are amazing though. We're still hitting the 70s here and like it was mentioned earlier, it's rained about 15 minutes in the past 2 and a half months (I was still sleeping since it rained in the morning).

i am pretty sure detroit is gone and there is no rejuvenation

i only know 1 person who lives IN detroit and she's arty fartsy and her basic philosophy is "well at least i have a jew nose and i'm a rail, so i'm not somebody they're looking to rape"

these are also in the top 20

Having spent a lot more time here I can say YES YOU ARE. You obviously haven't been in PDX lately as the summer has continued into October.
