set multiple alarms about 5 minutes apart in different locations in the room. Also try to provide some incentive for him getting up on time.

When I was a kid if we didn't get up my mom would send my Dad in the rooms to wake us up! THIS was the ultimate motivation as the lights went on, then covers were pulled off (and we had to remake our beds) then the belt was used if needed. My son is 12 and I make him go to bed by 9:00 p.m. May seem early to some but he does much better with about 9 hours of sleep. No cell phone or TV in his room either. I like the air horn idea. He'll associate it with the alarm and get out of the bed!

No matter what time I go to sleep, without a doubt the first time I hear my alarm in the morning, I don't even recall turning it off.

Get him to bed earlier? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9:30-10:00 isn't really too late for 13 year old.
That may not be too late for some, but it may not be enough sleep for others. In addition, is he asleep at that time or just in bed? Many kids nowadays are kept up past their bedtime from text messaging and talking on the phone. Check his phone/messaging log. If that's not the problem, try an earlier bedtime. If left alone to sleep, how late does he get up on the weekend? If he's sleeping late on the weekend as well, he's probably sleep deprived. Like many things in life, sleep is a habit. We all have good habits, as well as bad habits. That extends to sleep, as well.

My mom used to yank the sheets off of me and shoot me with a super soaker until I was out of the bed. Only problem was that I was an a-hole the rest of the day.

i once wook my kids at 6:45am and told them to get ready for school. i did not return to their rooms. i let them make their own decision. well, they slept til 9am. i told them to get ready for school. brought them to the office and told the secretary that they had NO excuse for being late. left them in the office and said goodbye. they were pissed.

I used to have this problem. Had a primary alarm go off. If I slept through it, there was a back-up that was set to go off 2 minutes later that someone hid in the room. Try the old school bell alarms as the back up. You can't sleep through it. If he goes back to sleep, that's on him after that.

Get up and walk in there and make him get up. Pretty simple.

I hate it. "Heck yeah! Weekend! I'm sleeping in all day!" wakes up at 7:30-8 am. Technically that is "sleeping in" but still...
