You're wrong. Part of learning a language is learning the cultural use of it. Self-deprecation is part of our culture. Those who lack that quality come off as odd and humorless and are at a definite disadvantage in social situations.

I worked with a Chinese girl on an internship this past summer. I tried learning a couple of Mandarin words and phrases and she laughed her arse off at me, saying I had a Japanese accent. I was in no way offended by that shite because I am an adult and not a terrible pussy like the people FalseProphet enables.
