what a game. i remember it well; i hope some of you young posters watched this. it is one, AND ONLY ONE, example of great.lsu football before saban and should kill these myths..
myth #1 lsu football history started with saban
myth #2 saban inherited no talent from dinardo
it really does piss me off when people completely discount LSU football before saban. LSU made saban. yes, he began an era where only excellence was acceptable. but the TAF and the adm finally understanding the beneficial economics of paying top dollar for top coaches and buildng great facilities are the long term causes of our programs rise. saban was not near the coach he is now. he grew and LSU gave him the big school stage to do so.

Drove in from Birmingham for the game. Yelled so much at that game I couldn't talk for three days following. Loudest event I can remember witnessing in TS. DEFENSE! Dinardo crowning achievement.

I've been to approximately 225 games in Tiger Stadium and that was the only time I ever went on the field.
What was funny was how security (25 or so EBR police and a few others in those pre-9/11 days) tried for a few seconds to hold back the flood of students onto the field. Once they gave up, the non-students also started going on the field. After about 5 minutes of that was when I climbed on a folding chair that everyone was using and jumped the fence (cyclone in those days). Security was just standing around by that time.
ETA: Go to around the 11:00 mark of the video linked in the OP. The guy trying to go on the field a few seconds early at the 11:05 mark and getting pushed back

Way too well. Seeing the Gator fans pre-game talking shite out thier mouths non-stop and some that was beyond shite. I kinda of knew LSU was going to win beforehand. The post-game look of absoulute shock on thier faces was a great thing to see, and I taunted a small group of thier dejected fans on the little patch of ground at the Wendys where they had retreated to lick thier wounds. I yelled at them to get thier pompous asses back to Florida and take thier smug coach with them. The greates scene on the tube I watched on was Spurrier jerking his visor down his neck.

Exactly! Glad you enjoyed the video!

I could have gone, but I was so pissed after the Auburn game I didn't go. I was pissed that night.

You mean the "Cheesers?"
Hereby defined as those arrogant, self righteous, self centered, entitled and relatively new fans of the program with the "It's my money and my ticket and I'll do whatever the hell I want" attitude. Don't really care about L.S.U. football that much but HAVE to be in that stadium every Saturday because it's a status symbol.

That could be a good lesson for all of the pessimists around here (not calling you one if you are not). Don't let one thing spoil the enjoyment of another.

That's one of my earlier memories of LSU football. I had been to games before thatbut usually watching the band come down the hill was the most exciting parts of those games.
I remember that game like it was yesterday though. Kevin Faulk/Herb Tyler, the fonky script of the "LSU" in the end zone, the goal post coming down. That game was complete awesomeness. The score was 28-21 right?

If most of the posters on this site came from that era of LSU football, this would be a much better place.
Fans today are spoiled brats who probably didn't give a crap about LSU then.

I haven't really decided the true cause of it. Some areas of the MS coast have some La penis envy. Also, many of these people were already Saints fans and it probably just seemed natural for them to fall in line with LSU fans when the Saints got good too.
I always end up talking to someone when I go home that probably couldn't find BR on a map that talk about how much they love the tigers.
I am starting to understand where some schools fan bases alumni have such a high sense of elitism.

What a game. Unbelievable game plan. Great team... Dinardo's shining moment. I remember the look on Dinardo's face when the team bus pulled in. I knew we were going to win.

That was hilarious. I like to mention this story when people ask about TS. I also still have my bag of grass.

Great day to be a Tiger fan. My nephew and I made it to the field from the upper deck. I was pulling up grass from the Eye of the Tiger, heard a commotion, and looked up to see a goal post coming at me at a good clip. Just barely dove out of the way. Someone got hurt pretty badly if I remember right. Anyway, I've got the ticket stub framed surrounded by purple and gold grass from the field.
