Since we have so many geniuses that think we shouldn't have paid Drew Brees, answer the question:
What should we have done instead?
We have the best player in franchise history as a FA. He has set his market value.
Now, tell me what you would have done instead.
BE SPECIFIC.

Brees is the only reason the games have Ben competitive this season. So this thread is pretty moot

There really is only one option if you decide a top QB is too rich for your blood, and that's go the way the 49ers have gone. Even assuming Chase Daniel is an adequate game manager QB, how do you build a dominant defense out of this unit with $20 million more in cap space? Mario Williams? He certainly turned the Bills defense around

I'll answer your question, but it may not be the answer you want. Could have spent a majority of the money adequately on bolstering up the defense and should not have let Nicks go(I thought he escaped too easy and that pissed me off). Also, Drew has hit his peak IMO. We should be looking at a young QB protege for Brees in the upcoming draft or FA to groom for the next 3 or so years. Chase Daniel is not an NFL starter.
