I hate these Towson and Idaho type games as much as the next fan, but it is some smart scheduling. Idaho was before Auburn. Towson is before Florida. We have a bye week before Bama.

2012 Schedule

This does setup the SEC schedule to give CLM his best shot at running the table.

The back-to-back-to-back run of Florida-USCe-A&M looks to be the toughest part. It's the place where, even if we're the superior team on paper, we could still get beaten.

You look at it that way maybe CLM has a brain.

It just sets up well - as close to a bye as you can get. It doesn't guarantee anything of course, but it gives the team two weeks to get healthier and more prep time. Washington would allegedly be the tune-up game.

I'm sure CLM has influence, but that's the AD at work.

Right, but as much as we don't want to see a scrimmage against Towson, the best time to play a strong non-conference team is at least two weeks before SEC play. After that, no way. It's tough enough to go through what the team already has to.

Use the gaps in the schedule for rent-a-wins and a bye in between our traditionally toughest games.

You guys do know that schedules are made years in advance and that Towson is a last minute replacement for TCU which chickened out on the game scheduled for today?

Pretty sure TCU was always 2013/2014. The only thing that changed is now its a neutral site game instead of a home and away

It sounds good in theory. However, we still sustained injuries during the cupcake portion of our schedule and during the Auburn game it sure looked like our players were complacent and had just spent the past few weeks "going through the motions" rather than having the focused preparation we seemed to have all last year after opening with Oregon. I think we're better served opening with and having to prepare for a quality opponent early in the season.

Sooooo WRONG...Verge went looking for a team which would come here for the least amont of $...simple as that. Hope that he's happy with the 50,000 that will actually show up tonite.

You are saying that TCU didn't back out on the game?

I don't think anything could have prepared us for Auburn. LSU is growing up as a "team" and Auburn was a test no matter what their record and past performances this season.

LSU played about as poorly as possible as a team with botched goal line snap on opening drive, personal foul and other penalties throughout game, dropped passes, and finally missed chip shot field goal. Thank the defense for the "W."

Anyone who thought we were going to beat Auburn by 3 touchdowns at Auburn with many players making their first road trip start in the SEC (including our QB) obviously don't know football.

I for one was just happy with the win. The scheduling "magic" is now we basically get a tune-up game before playing at Florida AND the team knows what to expect after escaping at Auburn.

I don't think they did. Thought they were on the schedule for 2013/2014

From the advocate. Just shitty scheduling

TCU never backed out of anything. We were scheduled to play Washington today, but over a year ago both schools agreed to push the date of the game up a few weeks. It's in the Advocate this morning.

I think playing UF this week instead of next would work out better for LSU. Playing Towson does nothing for LSU, except risk injury.
