I went the food truck village here in Atlanta yesterday.

Limited selection. Only 3 savory dish trucks. BBQ, Cajun and Gyros.

My question is whether food trucks are notoriously slow, and is that just part of the deal?

These were very slow.

how long a wait are we talking about? i've only eaten at a few, and all in Austin, but I think my wait was usually 10-15 minutes.

A real "Food Truck" in the sense of what it's supposed to be is going to be slower than most because they cook to order and it's a little more labor intensive than most restaurants you eat at. A truck more geared toward catering with lots of steam tables is going to be faster because it's simply food that's already heated up and ready and all that's needed is plating. Depends upon what you're looking for I suppose, and what value you place on what, but to order is always going to take more time, and depending on the popularity you will wait longer at times, and they're more likely to run out of product than a truck more geared to catering food.

Applebee's is starting a food truck soon. It will be equipped with a microwave so you should be jam up once that rolls out.

Do they fly it to the days location with a chopper like Taco Bell?

Speaking of food trucks, what the heck happened to the Ignatius Reilly Food Truck? They used to set up by my house every Saturday, and I haven't seen them in months. I've posted questions to their FB page asking what they've been up to but there has been no response in months. Along with Curbside, they are my favorite food truck.

So 35 minutes with a line of 12 people is about right?

I completely believe you, but I wonder why he wouldn't update his FB page to let his loyal customers know? The last I heard, he had generator issues and was not going to be around for a few days and I haven't heard from him since. I believe that was in June/July....
