I do not think that is true, but we bought using HEL so ours is.

There is a way to write it off. IIRC you deduct it as a second home. There's a stipulation that you have to stay in it x number of days a year (14, I think) to qualify.

A few other things from the comments:

1) If you have a 5W and a short bed truck, get a slider hitch. That allows you get the clearance in sharp turns to not bust out your back glass.

2) Slide awnings. Nice to have, but pricey. Also, they have a tendency to collect water and stretch/tear. If you don't want your slideout to leak maintaining the seals and seams is the key.

I can't do this in any area of my life. I am sure leaks will be starting all over soon.

Correct i asked, you can write it off, don't even have to use HELOC which i have too.

He was talking about this too, pricey, are nice to have, can be a little difficult with water collecting and how you have to roll them back up. Help a little bit with the heat too but frick, it's $1000 for 2 of them.

Mine roll up automatically when the slide goes in. I've never had a problem with them. As they roll up, water and trash roll off the side.

Oh wait, are you talking about the big awning on the front of the camper? I'm talking about the little ones over the slideouts.

Yeah, I think we all are.

If I buy a camper with them already on, I'd be happy. No way am I adding them.

I would add them if my camper stayed in the weather 24/7, but hell, for a couple grand more you could buy a cover instead

Would you add 5 year bumper to bumper extension warranty for $1400? Comes with a 2 year.

Campgrounds seem kind of white trash. I love the idea of spending time in remote locations with my family, but traveling from shite campground to shite campground only to see people sprawl their shite out everywhere seems kind of bunk.

I'd rather stay in the primitive portions of campgrounds myself. Maybe a class B and a cool tent?

I don't regret buying one. Just be aware that no matter how much you spend there will almost always be something broken or not working as it should. The quality control and materials standards on RVs are much lower than boats IMO. I started out with a 29 ft bumper pull with a rear lounge and after having kids I moved up to a 32 ft fifth wheel with forward bunk beds and two slides.

you should have just saved some time and an arguement and said you think your better than

You obviously havent been where I go, because its nothing trashy about it. While it isnt a great adventure to some awesome place, its a way to get out of the house with my small kids and enjoy the great outdoors, which in this case is a very nice lake. To each his own

Yes, but read the fine print. Often there's a lot they won't cover depending on who is issuing the warranty. If it's a manufacturer warranty you should be good to go, if it's third party be wary. Also, when you buy new, make sure you immediately fill out and send in all the warranty cards for the appliances! They are usually separate from the camper manufacturer warranty, i.e. the manufacturer won't cover repairs to your stove, A/C, refer, furnace, or crapper, or they will only cover for a short time after purchase.

Same thing with your insurance policy, some insurance companies will not cover awning repair/replacement (talking about the main awning as well as slideout awnings) because it's the number one claim on a camper.
