Tell me how three games like last Saturday's are beneficial to a team

I'm not going to harp on Saturday's gameplan or play calling. It was what it was, and I really don't see any reason to expect or hope for the LSU team to have done anything different than what they did Saturday night. To do so, seems sort of silly if you think about it for just a minute.

That being said, will anything possibly be gained by playing two more such glorified scrimmages (Idaho and Towson)?

I know I will get the answer, money, but that just doesn't really add up either, when they have the sliding scale ticket prices deal that they have now. It wouldn't be difficult at all just to readjust those accordingly, to throw out at least one of the three garbage pointless games.

A W is a W in OOC. We just had the most beastly schedule I think we might have ever had. A few cupcakes this year won't hurt anything. Just win and the rest will take care of itself.

We're in the minority, but I hate that shite. How do we follow our last three season openers with fricking North Texas. People were complaining about folks leaving the stadium. I tuned out, at home, in the middle of the third quarter. I know it's a gas for the smaller school to play against an elite squad, but I don't much enjoy it.

Notice I'm not saying there's no value in it, though. I'm sure the coaches schedule them for a reason.

New QB getting used to huge crowds with very little chance of losing? I'm with you...I don't really get it either.

I really like the way the schedule is set up this year. We have a few guys who are talented but need experience and are getting that against easily beatable teams. They have a month to get their feet wet and be prepared for a more challenging October. These September games are extremely beneficial IMHO

Notice that I'm not complaining about one or even two such games.

You think the Towson game will be the deciding factor in Mettenberger really getting his head straight for SEC play?

I've got some good reasons for you:

1. Wins.
2. Rest.
3. Tune-up.
4. Difficult schedule already, no need to make it worse.
5. Being in the SEC gets you to the title game.
6. They've got your season ticket money already.
7. Believe it or not... beating a bad team is better than losing to a good team.

Just a guess.

until they come up with a playoff system, i would schedule nothing but cupcakes.

there is no reason not to when you play in the sec gauntlet.

Normally I would agree with you - however, with 2 new starting corners (1 a true freshman),a new starter at QB (and, effectively a new player in FBS, plus a freshman backup), plus the 60 freshmen linebackers we have, we are in a unique position to have these games as a net positive. No, we don't really know what kind of team we have (and won't until we play Auburn), but success breeds success and the opportunity to make a few mistakes, live, versus a live opponent and in front of a live crowd is a luxury that is nice to have with the youth and inexperience we have.

While the team was very young last year as well, there were fewer question marks regarding experience going in - that team would definitely have stagnated playing the 2012 schedule.

Not a whole lot to get excited about playing teams like that.

Well, I'm not positive as to when this year's schedule was created, but both the Idaho and Towson games are prior to Auburn and Florida. In regards to Auburn, obviously they're usually a very tough game, especially at Auburn...with several injuries happening. The Towson game being played the week afterwards would give the team a week of recovery prior to playing Florida. I'd say they were probably thinking the same thing about playing Idaho after Washington, just prior to Auburn. I like the way the schedule plays out after last year's tough schedule.

It's not about fan excitement, but more about having as healthy of a team through the entire year.

Could have been worse. LSU could have scheduled Savannah St.

You're right. I'm ok with one or two "light" games to pad the schedule and compensate for the fact there is no preseason... but our OOC is a joke. Would it kill LSU to play two decent OOC games? Especially with what they charge fans.

wasn't Towson a replacement for a better opponent that pulled out?

If we play younger players I think it is definitely beneficial to a team. Its real game experience, you just don't get that with a scrimmage.

That being said, I'm still confused as to why Jeremy Hill didn't come in the fourth. You have to think that he will see a quarter of work against Idaho or Towson.

Whenever we open up with a cupcake, it is usually treated as a preseason game.

It doesn't matter either way in the grand scheme of things
