Not sure. I had friends coming back from Houston tonight call about the roads, and I told them about that route. They haven't reached that far yet though.
According to Google Maps (punching in generic Baton Rouge to Metairie directions), that detour route is 88.9 miles / 1hr 50min
Traditional I-10 route shows as 74.3 miles / 1hr 19min.

Obviously, traffic affects all these numbers.
