when did cell phones start giving weather alerts?

All day my phone has been making the EMS tone and then giving me text updates of weather conditions. I just got one for flash flooding, it's weird its the same sound it makes when its the TV or radio doing it.

A good thing though, if I had no idea what was happening right now.

Mine did that a cpl weeks ago for a flash flood warning. I haven't downloaded anything and it hasn't done it since, which we haven't had any weather since.

I'm glad you ask this because I meant to bring it up on the OT after it happened to me.

I have Verizon btw.
