Crackpot Theory: Has anyone considered Robert Arryn being Littlefinger's bastard child? It would explain Lysa's incredible clinginess to him even more since she would feel that this was the child taken from her years ago when she slept with Petyr.

I think I remember a thread about that on ASOIAF message board. I'm blanking on the exact details, but I thought someone came in there with a lot of evidence against it. One of the ones was Lysa being so convinced that Jon Arryn's last words ("seed is strong") were about Sweet Robin.

re: Crackpot ASOIAF Theories SPOILERS

I see the Twins as a potential sight of a major battle, and not only due to it's logistic importance: the necessary bottlenecking of troops as they cross could leave a large portion of the enemy host out in the open as they wait their turn.

Whether there are any Freys left alive there when/ if this aerial attack smorgasbord takes place...I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to turn the castle into Harranhal re-visited, especially if all 3 dragons share this same airspace.

ETA: re: LF's bastard

Yeah, I remember that discussion, but don't think it was here (?)...it was born out of the "Seed is strong" meaning discussion. When I read that Lysa killed Jon Arryn, I immediately thought the sickly heir was LF's...but never pursued the theory...

I like this one. I've had a hard time believing someone as badass as John Arryn would have such a wimpy son no matter what the mother's influences amounted to.

LF's child was aborted. Remember her father talking in his fever dreams? It was all about the regret he felt for aborting Lysa's first child and cursing her fertility.

Was he definitely aborted? I wonder if maybe Robert's "condition" is a direct effect of her not taking enough moon tea?

I thought it was said that Lysa had multiple miscarriages before Robert. Which would explain her protectiveness

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that was mentioned

Hoster definitely made Lysa abort Littlefinger's child. She had a few miscarriages after that though.

Yeah, I think it was made pretty clear through Hoster. I also recall in a Catelyn chapter where Lysa was all sad holding baby Robb b/c she had just had a miscarriage and had previously talked with Catelyn about how wonderful it would be for them to have two boys growing up together.

It definitely crossed my mind that he might be LF's son but between the "the seed is strong" comment and LF's insinuation that Sweetrobin might not live long I'm skeptical.

I dont think LF would think twice about killing his bastard with Lysa.

I thought he was a likeable a-hole at first then my opinion of him went way downhill especially when he got creepy with Sansa.

re: Crackpot ASOIAF Theories SPOILERS

I've been thinking about Varys' riddle to Tyrion, and really I think its the key behind Varys game. In case you all don't remember:

quote:

"In a room sit three great men, a king, a priest, and a rich man with his gold. Between them stands a sellsword, a little man of common birth and no great mind. Each of the great ones bids him slay the other two. 'Do it,' says the king, 'for I am your lawful ruler.' 'Do it,' says the priest, 'for I command you in the names of the gods.' 'Do it,' says the rich man, 'and all this gold shall be yours.' So tell me- who lives and who dies?"

His answer of course was:

quote:

“Power resides where men believe it resides. No more no less. It's a murmers trick. A shadow on the wall... yet shadows can kill."

I really think that Varys is referring to his goal with Aegon. All 3 reasons are why people will follow Aegon, Varys is convinced. People like John Connington will follow him for he is seen and believed to be the rightful heir to the throne and the answer for the vicious Lannister alliance.

People will follow him because the Faith will eventually denounce Robert's bastards as abominations born of incest and that it is in the God's will that Aegon return to the throne. Even though I don't think Varys could foresee this, the Faith Militant will support Aegon's claim from the Gods themselves.

The Golden Company is following him of course for money. What everyone else doesn't know is that select members of the Golden Company know Aegon's true birth, and its vengeance of House Blackfyre in Westeros.

Therefore Aegon's power resides from three places, and thus Aegon himself is the correct answer to the Riddle. The general sellsword is a representative of the people of Westeros, and Varys sees Aegon as the other three men in the room, which ensures his victory in the War. But as Varys said as well, this is merely all a trick. Aegon really has no claim, but yet he has now become all three men at once. He's a shadow that has come back to take over Westeros, making the Targaryens and the Lannisters pay for their past sins.

Yep. If it were with Cat, maybe, but he doesn't give two shits about Lysa or Robert Arryn. Littlefinger only cares about Littlefinger in the end, and that will likely be his great folly.

that is easily one of the best/most interesting posts in this thread.

one question though, who in the GC do you think knows he is a Blackfyre?

Harry Strickland. He has past Blackfyre loyalties, and I think he may have told his other commanders as well for them to break their contract. The Golden Company has no fondness for the Targaryens, even taking some of the last of Viserys money when he hosted them a feast and then laughing in his face, so I don't see any reason they would support Aegon if at least the commanders didn't know who he actually was.

yeah, I can see that. Didn't Illyrio broker that deal with the Golden Company? If so I could have seen him telling Harry at the least.
