You weren't chosen for a reason.

I thought the whole thing was pretty obvious and easy to follow.

I wish I could find the massive breakdown on the film. The movie is extremely subtle and if you said you easily got all the shite going on in the movie, I wouldn't believe you. I wouldn't believe Charlie Kaufman if he said he easily understood all of it.

I've had a different theory every time I've watched it.

The most recent simple explanation I've read is that the first half is the blonde's fantasy, but that skips over a whole lot of shite.

The biggest disappointment of the film by far, though, is that the brunette's patch is blurred out.

I'm sure someone will know what breakdown I'm talking about (I can't find it via the googler) and post it. It was definitely a fantasy, but there is a lot more to it than that. It was definitely drug induced, and some subtle hints indicate that she's heavily addicted. The breakdown actually made sense of the dancing intro.

ETA: Got it.

I think I got to the part where it turned into Honey I Shrunk the Kids and was like "Ok. I'm done."

What do you think is his best? Blue Velvet probably gets the most run, but I don't know if it's his best.

Love this reaction. I wish I could explain it to you but I can't. I've read multiple forum write ups/thoughts on it from different websites and nobody can clearly explain what was going on Lynch's head for a final evaluation of this flick. I thought it was awesome for that reason though. Makes you dwell and dwell on it till you develop a personal opinion and that's what you can argue.

Blue Velvet, along with Requiem for a Dream, are the only two movies I've watched that I can honestly say that I will never watch again (outside of crap movies). Requiem because of the depression factor. But Blue Velvet is the creepiest movie I've ever seen no doubt about it. I am 26 and I guess shouldn't be freaked out at this point in my life given my age and the amount of movies I've seen, but this movie unnerved me. My skin was seriously crawling the entire time, and at certain times I came out of my seat like my body was shreaking. Sounds gay but I don't care, that movie weighed on my mind for a solid week.

I honestly cannot say what his best is and I could see why many people would vote Mulholland as his best. I personally didn't like Mulholland near as much as his other films, but it's still incredible. There's a difference between what you like and what you think is good. There are great movies I don't enjoy and terrible ones that I watch every time they are on.

I like them all, but prefer some over others.

Blue Velvet

Eraserhead, The Elephant Man, The Straight Story

Mulholland Drive, Wild at Heart

Dune, Twin Peaks- Fire Walk With Me, Lost Highway

Inland Empire

I don't understand why everyone says this. I enjoyed it and watched it like once a week for probably 6 months when I was in college.

But isn't that what makes it so great? It's the movie that opened Pandora's box for me. It makes you feel a way that you've never felt before and a way that no other movie can. What other movie can you say has moments where you're not sure whether to laugh at the ridiculousness or be scared shitless at what's going on? It's such an awkward and uncomfortable experience; basically everything the Hollywood popcorn movies in theaters are not. Lynch manipulates you in a way that is unparalleled. His movies are a trip; like seriously tripping. Not only do his movies make you say "wtf?", but they still have tons of meaning, symbolism, etc. and the man is a master behind the camera. Quality film making, bizarre stories, and an experience that you can only get from him.

O I'm not saying its not great. It is the only movie ever to make me feel that way or have type of reaction during and after the movie. That alone made it great. Hopper was ridiculously good. I just don't think I could I could watch it again.
