Jeremy Hill only has 4 years of eligibility left? No redshirt possible?

According to this article, he lost his one redshirt year already for being out of highschool for a year. Is that right?

quote:

From an eligibility standpoint, the season away from football amounted to a redshirt year, sending Hill into 2012 as a freshman running back with four seasons to play.

Well, a season removed from high school doesn't = a redshirt year. More like a gray shirt year. During a redshirt season, the player at least learns the system and practices with the team. Hill delayed enrollment, much like a gray shirt.

Yeah, I can't see how it would count against him, but from what I've seen, he needs to be on the field, at some point, unless the others just tear it up. Kid has some homerun potential in him.

That doesn't sound right

But it doesn't matter I don't guess...he'll play this year anyway.

I agree. RB is one of the few positions where an entire year learning the system isn't as necessary (i.e. QB, OL). From what I've watched of him, I'd like to see him get some carries. I can see him taking the fullback route a la Hester, Scott, Ware and Hilliard, and then working his way into the RB rotation.

I'll take their word for it, but why would you want to RS a guy that didn't play at all last year anyway? You want him to go from 12/10 to 9/13 without game action of any kind?

Once he starts classes he has 5 years to play 4. If he wasn't in school he couldn't lose a year.

Very solid point.

I would say that is completely erroneous...you have 5 to play 4 from your first day of enrollment, which was January.

Redshirting RBs is a disappearing practice nowadays. I know Ford was redshirted, but didn't he have some type of injury right before the season started his freshman year?

He is a running back with a shite ton of talent and ability. We don't want to redshirt him anyway.

Yeah I don't think that info is correct, but like everyone has said, it didn't look like he was gonna get redshirted anyway.

Yep. Especially your studs. They'll be gone after just 2 years of playing.

ETA: After reading this part
quote:

I think it was just worded wrong. I don't think the author meant to imply that he loses his redshirt year.

ETA2:
CLOWN comment by Tommy Rucker at the end of the article:
quote:

This guy and the LSU quarterback are fortunate they are LSU football players as it means they are going to be treated special. LSU does not mind recruiting ANYONE if they can play football. I wonder if they would have been recruited if the young girls that were the alleged victims were the daughters of some of the important people, powerful people or coaches at LSU. It is amazing what people will tolerate and accept if you happen to run or throw a football. These guys will soon be celebrated and adored in Baton Rouge.

What a douche

He has 5 years to play 4, unless he enrolled last fall as an LSU student.

I do not think Scott Hotard meant Jeremy lost a possible redshirt year (which he will not need barring injury) but rather that it "amounted" to a redshirt year.

Haha 4 years?? Talented running backs will usually declare early. Jeremy Hill will be here for two years then go pro. NFL teams willl want his size and speed.

He will be draft eligible after his sophomore year. Doesn't make sense to redshirt him but he does have 5 to play 4

I won't take their word for it. The Advocate doesn't know what the frick they are talking about. The 5 year clock does not start until your semester starts (enrolling doesn't even start the clock). If you are enrolled and do not withdraw before your class/es start, the clock starts. He did not even enroll at LSU previously.
