No, it's not considered a major tournament.

No. It is a time filler for soccer junkies. It is completely worthless.

With the age limit, it's just another tournament. Bigger deal for women's soccer.

typically U-23 players...w/ 3 over the age limit sprinkled in. Its good for getting a look at the young up and coming players.

On a senior level, especially in Europe, it's not that big of a deal. Mainly because it always fall right after the Euros. It seems to carry a little weight for some South American/African countries though.

Yeah. Look at the roster Brazil churned out for the Olympics. All hands on deck for their first gold.

Who did you want brazil to send? Their U-18 team. They just happen to have a lot of young talent right now.

Huh? I know Brazil has a lot of young talent, that was my point. They also picked three great overage players, something the European teams didn't do.

Instead of trotting out three old dudes, they went out and got Thiago Silva, Marcelo and Hulk to play...in the Olympics. They convinced three amazing players to step up and win it for their country. That's what I meant when I said all hands on deck.

Really don't know what point you're trying to make.

Not sure if the people in here are serious, it's not as worthless as some people make it out to be.

I think its probably only a huge deal from Great Britain.

1) Because England (yes I realize England =/= GB) has sucked for eternity

2) Because, obviously, they are at home.

Only one person said it was worthless and we all know why.

If we would've qualified and replaced Honduras or Mexico in their respective groups, how do you think we would have done? The durans had a pretty tough group, gave it their all though.

It may not be worthless, but it's not a major tournament, either.

I'm not sure if it's considered to be a bigger deal than some of the other youth championships that are out there. Someone in Europe may have to field that one.

Don't think so... My SO is a big soccer enthusiast in England, he doesnt seem bothered with the Olympic results.
