Bduhon Training Camp Day 5 31JUL12

The team was in their normal routine today with a small Special Teams segment, some one-on-one drills, and then Team-on drills.
The Defense had the advantage today in Team-on drills, despite Brees having a great day, getting the better of the offense on multiple plays. Brees might have had his best day of camp so far and seemed to make the throws only elite QB's make.
Jimmy Graham had a big day today pulling in around 8 catches from multiple QB's. Two of the snags were catches normal TE's would not make. At one point Graham went up and extended his arms through two defenders to pull in a ball thrown into coverage by Chase Daniel.
There seems to be a small competition arising at TE2. Although David Thomas was back at practice on Tuesday at what he claims is 100% health, Michael Higgins is making a case for himself everyday. If Higgins can stay healthy and keep up his stellar performance so far it might get really interesting. I do believe they will keep three guys at TE on the roster, but if they do not it would be negative for Higgins as I do not think they will send Thomas to the practice squad. Thomas is also versatile and in emergencies can be moved to different positions like FB.
Rookie WR Nick Toon seems to be struggling the last couple of days. He has had multiple easy drops and a couple of times has missed blocking assignments or seems to be out of place on some plays. I decided to go back and compare his mini-camp performances and his training camp practices, and he definitely had better days in mini-camp. It is still early so I am confident he will turn around and might be one of those players who turns it on once the lights are above him.
The Offensive Line had a good day today allowing minimal pressure on all three QB's. The only person who may have only had an average and was beat on a couple plays is Jermon Bushrod.
On the defensive side of the ball, Cam Jordan had one of his best days so far in camp. He looked fast and stronger than other days in camp. He is one person who will thrive in the new system.
I would not want to be the person who has to choose between the two kickers in camp. Both Hartley and Kasay have looked very sharp. Both kickers booted around 10-15 balls each and were even at 100%.
One person to keep an eye on this Sunday in the hall of fame game is Rookie RB Travaris Cadet. He was a very explosive player in college at Appalachian State and has had some nice plays in camp. He may get extra snaps early in preseason to see where he is at NFL speed.
Akiem Hicks was cleared to practice and should return on tomorrow. According to the new CBA, Hicks is going to be in partial pads the first three days of camp and then can go full contact.
Jabari Greer left practice on Tuesday with a groin injury with no word yet on the severity.
Practice is in the morning on WED at 8:50. There is a 20% chance of rain with the temperature in the mid 90's.

Good stuff. I hope Toon can figure this out sooner rather than later, though I know thatother than QB, WR is perhaps the toughest position to contribute in your first year.
Cadet is intriguing as well. We are freaking stacked at RB with Ivory, PT, Ingram, and Sproles, so it'll be interesting to see if he makes a big enough impression to bump someone. I can't see us carrying five RB's and most teams don't put contributing RBs on the practice squad.

You are only elligible for the practice squad your first 3 seasons in the league and once you play in more than 5 games in a season you are inelligible for the Practice squad i think
Its something close to that

Hey bro, I've heard almost nothing about Harper. How has he looked out there? Obviously he isn't making plays, but is he getting exposed out there?

Wendy's is definitely not eligible for practice squad

Thomas is not, but Higgins is and was there last year, but was activated late, I think.
