Landry vs. Anderson

I for one would've preferred to keep Carl over signing Ryan Anderson for a few reasons:
1) Landry had pretty solid low post moves - more than I think Ryno has in his arsenal. (Granted RA has more range, but Landry could hit the 16 footer pretty consistently)
2) The two of them are pretty close in age - RA is 24 & Landry is 25, I think - no older than 26 I'm pretty sure
3) 2 years @ $4 mil per VS. 4 years @ $35/36 mil . . . . well, no argument necessary. I would think we could've been a more serious player for a better center than Lopez - i.e. Nene, J. McGee, etc. OR an upgrade @ the 3.
I know a counter to this is that Dell is blowing it up to get younger & wouldn't mind one more year in the lottery, but I'd prefer to fight for playoff spot & show next year's FA class that we're 2 (1 stud & 1 solid starter) away from contending for a 2/3 seed in the West.
And yes, Dell has earned my trust, I guess I'll just miss ALL of last year's roster gone come opening night Oct. 31

I think they should have signed Lebron James.

Landry is 28, almost 29...Anderson is a much better player. Scores more and rebounds better. Anderson is a starter. Landry is a bench player. Anderson makes much more money now for a reason.
...I did really like Carl's energy off the bench though and will miss him

I liked Landry a lot. But Anderson is far better for the long term success of this team.

Anderson made more 3 pointers than anyone in the nba last season. End of discussion.

Apologies for the wrong board blunder. & I was incorrect on Landry's age as well - guess I thought he just had a premature receding hairline. I still fear that Anderson, while more of a threat from downtown, gives us one more big w/ no/limited low post game & will be a downgrade defensively.
Don't get me wrong tho - I would love to follow Ryno & J. Smoove around Lucy's and pick up the horny scraps

Ryno isn't bad on D against 4s but he can't guard 3s. Landry was a bit small on D against big guys and undersized on offense. Ryno has the advantage cuz 4s r not used to covering a guy shooting 10 3s a game.

Landry was fantastic when he was here, but he was pretty limited to the 4. Anderson is just so versatile. His shooting can make him a solid 3 if he sees time there, he's a great offensive rebounder so when he's at the 4 he will give us a nice boost, and whenever he plays the 5, he is flat out nightmare for the opposing team's 5 on the offensive end.
I can't pretend I know much about his defense, but it's not like Landry was a lock down PF at 6'9. Not to mention Anderson is a career 85% free throw shooter which is HUGE for crunch time.
Carl will be missed, but RA is a nice step in the rebuilding process.

Here's your problem, you are overvaluing post play. The league is changing to be much more of a perimeter, pick and roll attack. The day of monsters in the paint has passed for now. Also, Landry kind of sucked on defense. Yeah he bullied Gasoft in the LA series but he's so short he's a bad rebounder and Monty publicly called him out on his defensive effort on more than one occasion.
Anderson = Good Starter
Landry = Good Bench Player
How can you honestly say you'd rather a bench player over a starter? And we're not talking about a pretend bench player 6th man of the year that would start on most teams in the league, we're talking about a player that couldn't start on the 3rd worst team in the league even though the opportunity was given to him in a contract year. If it helps, don't think of Anderson as a big with no post game, think of him more like a better rebounding 07-08 Peja that is young and uninjured.

I've always thought this was a good comparison. And that ain't bad.
