It seems like most of the top tier schools are going through a down period. Michigan, Florida, Texas, Ohio State, FSU, Miami, etc aren't really factors when it comes to the NC this year. It just seems like college football as a whole is in a weak phase.

Thoughts?

I think Alabama will lose in Baton Rouge this year.

I don't think so. Top tier is something always changing. With that said OSU, UF, FSU and Texas are a lot of people's dark horse teams for this year.

Yes. Obviously when the powers of the '90s went away, top football players completely stopped playing college football altogether. They didn't start going to other schools, they just gave it up completely. So once those schools went down, then entire talent level suffered and now everyone sucks. You fricking retard.

just think there is more parity today; i dont see much difference between the team ranked #5 and the team ranked #25. using ND as an example: ranked #24 according to espn, but still favored vs #10 michigan.

Those schools will still probably end up sending way more guys next level, I think a combination of scheme, coaching and rule changes have made the teams they used to dominate more competetive year to year.

So you name 10-15 years worth of successful teams and then try to compare that to a one year sample size? Still retarded.

More good teams, less great teams. So it all depends on your definition of "weaker".

Where did you get 10-15 years from? Most of those teams have been perennial powers for years.

The sec dominance could have actually hurt college football a little and make other conferences and their teams seem weaker.

And it's still cyclical. That's what you're failing to account for. USC and LSU were shite in 1998. Tenn was on top of the world in the late 90s. Nebraska ran shite right before that. Everything is cyclical. The overall talent and coaching in college football is probably better than it's ever been. But fewer teams control the market, so the ones that do stand out more.

USC is back this year so that is a major plus for college football competition. And Oregon has been picking up the slack in recent years, making the Pac-12 a better conference all around.

The Big-12 will be all about Boomer Sooner this year and the SEC has LSU, Bama and Arkie that are all worthy watching this year.

The landscape has changed but that's exciting enough to keep me watching.

I think that certain teams are just so far ahead of them to even compete right now. Mainly LSU and Bama.

A little more harsh than I would have worded it but....yeah, it's not like America stopped producing elite talent and great coaches just because a handful of schools are less dominant than they were in the past.

I think that most coaching staffs are dumb. The D Line should be your top target each year, yet these d bag coaches go after the top RB, QB and WR each year

The best teams don't seem quite as good as last decade but that's just me.
