whats a good caliber pistol for a woman (self defense)

I do not care about knock down power as much as I do about just putting lead into them. You can pretty much by bullets that will make a low caliber pistol very deadly.

Saying all of that, what's a good caliber that's small and that she wont be scared of when target practicing. I don't want her to be nervous or scared of it.
