On Meet The Press, someone who I consider to be one of the most well respected sports journalists of all time (that's objective I know) called for the NCAA to suspend FB for one year at PSU

And then he called on the leadership of the university to do it to themselves..."if come September football is being played at PSU. Something's wrong

i'm a little torn on this. i really havent followed whats been happening with regard to the school but i agree everyone related to the event should be removed from the school and punished accordingly. i do not believe however that the students/players should be punished for the failings of their leaders. death penalty would effectively screw over all the current players on this team because of something they had zero involvement of

Good for him,he's right. If a pedophile is allowed to operate within it for years, you shouldn't have a football program.

Bob Costas' opinion isn't any more important than mine FWIW.

and my opinion is no to the death penalty.

Bob Costas has joined the old man brigade.

I stopped taking him serious after he went on his rant about NFL players celebrating.

No way they should receive the Death Penalty. These players and current coaches had nothing to do with this.

Agreed. Until the vast majority of PSU fans can comprehend JoePa was a horrible person, then they don't deserve to play football. That mindset of doing anything to defend the sport led to this evil. Penn State has to be made an example of that this evil will not be remotely tolerated.

Costas is a legend, no doubt, but I disagree with him here. I see death penalties for massive payment programs and shite like that. This is not one of those instances. Don't make the whole football program suffer because of the shitty decisions made by higher-ups.

The media's over the top, holier than thou attitude on this is starting to piss me off. They're acting like JoPa himself was actually raping little kids now. Obviously this whole thing is horrific and Sandusky desrves the worst punishment possible. And certainly it appears that JoPa and others tried to just look the other way, which is also horrendous and despicable. But we don't know everything, and no one ever will.

The media now is clearly over sensationalizing the story for their own gain. That is just as disgusting to me.

The people who run Penn State are going to have some difficult financial decisions to make. The school is going to get hammered in civil suits, and I doubt the Legislature is going to apporpriate more money for the school to cover the unplanned costs. So the school will have to reduce spending somewhere to offset the money spent on the lawsuits.

If the people who run Penn State cut academics to pay for the law suits they will do lasting harm to the institution. They will have to make cuts first to athletics. However, cutting just football will be a problem since football pays for everything else. They are going to have to cut all sports at Penn State as a result of the Sandusky scandal.

Heard a caller on XM radio 91 college sports channel make a great point about why the Penn State situation is an NCAA compliance issue. He made a great point about Penn State repeatedly misrepresenting itself to recruits for years on end as a program of the utmost integrity while knowingly harboring a child rapist in its program. The point was that this fraudalent misrepresentation of the program created an unfair competitive advantage for Penn State. I don't agree that the death penalty is warranted but I do think a clear LOIC violation occurred and a severe probation is warranted. The death penalty would be more appropriate if they were repeat violators.

Death Penalty? At the very least.

The institution is totally at fault; however, IMO it is NOT the NCAA's responsibility to punish them. Its should be done by the state of Pennsylvania and the punishment should be very severe. The only way to appropriately punish this school it to take away what it deems most important, football!

Anyone who argues against the death penalty because innocent players will be impacted should also be speaking out against civil lawsuits against PSU. The millions of dollars that PSU stands to lose will impact all the same innocent athletes as well as the entire student body and university employees. Same with suits against the direct participants. Why should their innocent families suffer just because Dad did something wrong?

And there was a payoff. Sandusky received $168,000 in hush money. That's close to (alleged) Cam Newton money. In return, the athletic program received a competitive advantage of keeping the awful truth hidden from recruits and parents.
