Good grief. Everyone is trying to have Suarez burned at the stake after his goal today.

Apparently, Napoli came in for Coates yesterday and we turned them down... they want cover for banned Cannavaro

Oughta offer loan swaps for the season.... Him for Vargas

Hearing WBA is most likely loan destination... Clarke likes him (only if we bring in cover)

Yea it's absurd. Blatant hypocrisy in many cases.

It's clear the goal should have been disallowed. Whether Suarez did it on purpose or not is irrelevant. He did his job in the most basic sense of the word: scoring a goal.

Anything less than that would have been a tragedy in my opinion. You play to win the game.

Furthermore, I would have been beside myself had he told the ref to disallow the goal. I in no way see that as "admirable" like so many others. It would have been an injustice to the club and fans. Not only that, but nobody should expect him to do the "admirable" thing in that situation. Does a defender call the ref over when he takes someone down in the box and a pen isn't given? Does a keeper run over to the ref and tell him to allow a goal that crossed the line but wasn't awarded? Does an attacker call himself offside when he scores a goal from an illegal position? The answer is no and none of those are inherently worse than what Suarez did.

The fallacy of "good" and "bad" cheating gets on my nerves. It is intellectually unfounded, and is hypocritical in many ways.

From Sky Sports Article, "In Defense of Suarez":

quote:

The key word here is 'deliberate'. Not even the most myopic Liverpool supporter would attempt to claim that the ball did not strike Suarez's hand. But is there 'movement of the hand towards the ball'? Not conclusively.

This is why referee Andre Marriner was absolutely correct to allow the goal to stand, and why Suarez does not deserve the current round of condemnation. This is not a Diego Maradona or Thierry Henry moment.

[...]

Given his past indiscretions, there have been suggestions that Suarez should have intervened, held his hands up (sorry) to what had occurred and then basked in the positive Public Relations glory of his own Paolo Di Canio moment.

But why on earth should he? There is no obvious or deliberate intent to handle the ball, the referee and his assistant were well placed to make a judgement and even the opposition have admitted they would have accepted similar good fortune had the situation been reversed. The Monday headlines then would probably read 'Lucky Mansfield' rather than 'Cheat Suarez'.

[...]

At present, there are far too many in the game - be they officials, players, managers, commentators, pundits or supporters - of the baffling belief that an indiscretion has occurred whenever there is contact between the ball and a player's hand. We've all seen penalties awarded in ridiculous circumstances when an unwitting defender has the temerity to be stood around 30cm away when a ball is blasted at high speed against their arm.

Perhaps some re-education is required at all levels so that those who insist on demanding that a spot-kick or free-kick be awarded regardless of the circumstances gain a greater awareness of the rules, and perhaps the time has come for certain individuals not to be castigated purely because of their sins of the past.

I think all of this pretty much explains the reactions of most of those that outraged by the goal due to the blind hate of our talismanic striker. Their schtick is getting very old and it's time they move on past their own hypocrisy.

We as reds can see this for one yes because the homer in us wants to but more importantly we aren't confined by our blind hatred of the player like many others are so when we see brilliance or something as accidental they only see it as being lucky or cheating.

I started liking this club because of Torres, Gerrard & Alonso but as of right now I wouldn't trade Luiz for anyone, baggage and all.

Well maybe Messi, purely a fantasy, and I know y'all would probably say the same
