yeah, I'm still looking forward to see how we close out the season... Sturridge and Suarez's partnership development... what Coutinho can bring to the team... closing on a high note..

The end of our season will be fun to watch. Contrary to popular belief, the sky isn't falling. We are improving every week. Matches like the WBA one will strengthen the squad as a whole when faced with adversity further down the road. I don't know why people on here or on Twitter are freaking out - we don't have much to play for in the league except Europa. Rodgers went for the win late in the match at home, and it bit us in the arse. Safer subs like Coutinho for Shelvey and Allen for Henderson might have grinded out a win. But that's just football for you.

Finishing strong is very important. I heard some nfl stat saying non-playoff teams that won their last 2 games or 2/3 (can't really remember) ended up with a few more wins the next season.

"The sky is falling" mentality is a bit different from acquiescing to the harsh reality of lowered expectations. I think in this thread people, like me, are coming to grips as to just where we are. For me I just don't have a fricking clue, and I really don't know what to expect. Nothing would surprise me. I dont know if I should expect wins, draws, or losses in the coming months. I guess I should expect a few wins, a few disappointing losses, and a lot of draws.

I get that it's a transition year. I really really don't want to finish 9th, 10th, or 11th.

No but really I feel it I sense we are close at times but at others we are so far away. I don't know what to expect from this team ...

hell can't even win with them on FIFA anymore either

I predicted 8th this season. That's about right.

We are still a few key players away, and some depth, from competing with the other big 6 (it's really a big 6 now, right?)... That is obvious... But we have enough quality to beat anyone on our day...

I look forward to see how it plays out...

I was really hoping to see Coutino on for Shelvey, too... I wanted to see him playing behind Luis...

Well I don't know what I remember. 8th looks to be about right considering our season to this point.

At this point 8th (how we finished last year) would neither please nor disappoint me.

Well frick me, just finished watching. Tough to see us play to the level of our competition and struggle to put one in against a team that packs it in and stays pretty organized. Think we missed Sturridge there to help support and make something happen, but hopefully Coutinho can provide something in that regard too. Not much else to add that hasn't been said. We weren't THAT bad, we just weren't good enough, and as usual, other teams are able to take advantage of our mistakes when we can't.

It has nothing to do with 4th. I'm just tired of being disappointed. I guess I'm just too emotionally invested in a season that is already over.

Reading the ESPN writeup. Brendan Rodgers on the PK. What does this mean:

I can't blame [Steven] Gerrard for missing the penalty, he had a fantastic game and he had the courage to step up and take it.

Courage? To take a PK at home from point blank range?

Standard coach-speak. Don't read into it.

I'm as bummed as anyone, but come on. We've had a good string of results for the past several months now. We played very well against WBA for the first 80 minutes. We were beaten on a set piece (yet again) after holding them without a shot for 80+ minutes. It's frustrating, but that's just the way the game goes sometimes.

Like I said earlier, it's a good lesson to learn at this point in the season. This isn't a top 4 side, and probably won't be for at least another full season. These results will happen until some of the young players have the experience to turn a match like this in their favor.

For the past couple months now I've been watching our matches from a different point of view. If we had a legit shot at 4th this season, I would be furious after a result like that. But since it has almost entirely been chalked up to a learning/transition year, a part of me is happy that our players have to go through a loss like that. Hitting rock bottom helps form identity and courage.

I'm all in on the Europa. I want BR to go for it full force. Just making the semis/finals would be a tremendous achievement and really take some pressure off of the squad heading into next season.

Even though LFC is worse off point-wise than they were last year (at this point in the season) at least the club appears to be moving forward. A huge part of that reason is BR. King Kenny was not the manager to take you to the heights the club deserves and strives towards. The organization is taking the right steps for sustained success. I can appreciate that.

I guess this is where i went wrong. I was fully prepared to accept defeat at the hands of other teams this year, but not us defeating ourselves. That's my fault and I've learned the hard way that my initial outlook wasnt open minded enough. It hit me like a ton of bricks over the course of this season and its just a mentality I need to change.

I'm on the same boat as you and I really saw nothing but the best from this season and especially after that good string of picking up points. I honestly though we could make 4th now I know that probably won't happen I am wish for 5th and no lower than 7th.

I'm optimistic and always will be and though the losses hurt when you that way the victories are just that much sweeter. Don't change who you are and keep believe there is so much potential in this team and I could see us turning it around we were only able to find the right pieces to the puzzle.

WBA beat us. We didn't beat ourselves yesterday.
