Cesc mentions Arsenal fans in a piece on Barça-Real rivalry. a snippet:
quote:
What's more, Fàbregas (who rejoined Barça last season from Arsenal) argues that the pressure from his own fans at Barça is even greater than it is from home supporters in other countries, including England. "In Spain whatever you do, after one or two months it's forgotten," Fàbregas said. "Forgotten. You can't say to the fans, 'Oh, we won this one month ago.' People forget. They just want new results and new results. That's what makes the Spanish fans so competitive, you know?"
quote:
"I think this helps in a way," Fàbregas continued, "because that makes you always be aware of the situation. You can never go to sleep. Like at Arsenal, when I was there the fans would adore you, whatever you do. They would always support you until the end, always sing your name. It's completely different here. You lose two games and you panic because you know the fans will not like it and will make you pay for it in a way. I'm surprised, and I like it. It's new for me to play professionally in Spain."

I like the starting 11. Lets hope Giroud can have a good game and score a goal. We will be tested on set pieces all day so cheap free kicks are a no no. I'm talking to you Captain Verminator.

Giroud has looked great in the first half. He was involved in the build up play and had a poacher's finish for his goal. His passing and movement have been bright. Ramsey seems to have his confidence back and looks good going forward but as the goal showed he lacks defensive ability. Besides that we are moving the ball well and have been decent on defending set plays.

sigh
Before the goal, that was the best I had seen Arsenal play. It was really beautiful to watch and i believe they had 70% of the possession. They just turned it off.
Great to see goals from the new guys as well. Giroud is getting better, made good runs all game. Gibbs and Mert have to stay healthy, they have been our best, most consistent defenders this year. Santos is god awful, and Verm should def play LB if Gibbs cant go.
And of course, the two Spaniards are simply amazing.
Diame probably should have got a red, but then it wouldnt have been fair, he and carroll is all they have.

Random match thoughts:
-Kept possession very nicely in the first half but weren't particularly dangerous. Felt like a typical Arsenal match of yesteryear when they got their goal against the run of play.
-Giroud played really well all match. Held the ball up just as well as Carroll, IMO, but added a goal and an assist. Was getting rather annoyed with the praise Carroll was getting. Giroud has shown quite a bit of class for the most part all season. Was just a matter of time before he got off the schneid.
-Cazorla was excellent again, particularly in the second half. Seemed like he was playing deeper in the first. West Ham was the first team to not even attempt to have their DM man-mark Cazorla at any point in the match. Seemed like he always had space to receive the ball.
-There will be goals if teams try and go for it against us, particularly with Poldi, Giroud, Walcott, and Santi on the pitch. Extremely good counter-attacking skill-set there.
-Walcott's finish was very nice. Still like him as a wide forward better.
-Arteta. What can I say about him that hasn't already been said. Part of me hopes that Alonso or another Spanish midfielder suffers an injury because Arteta deserves to be capped. Playing the DLP position as well as anyone in the world right now.
-"OH SANTI CAZORLA" to the tune of "Seven Nation Army" is my new favorite chant.
-Plz come back soon Szczesny. Vito is still terrifying.
-We played some sort of 3-4-3 or 3-4-1-2 late. I liked it. Could work well if we play any sides with two strikers. Having 3 good, (hopefully) healthy CBs gives us some flexibility there.
-Gervinho was absent. We were doing most of our build-up through the left, but still not a good performance. Didn't really do anything wrong, but didn't do anything special with the opportunities he had.
-Sure hope Gibbs is alright.
