What the hell is up with our strategy of playing it outside and trying to cross it in? It's not working.

All freaking season man. It's infuriating. Work it wide to our wingers who cross to one guy against 4, or work it wide to our fullbacks who send in shitty crosses. It's just a shitty attack, I just don't enjoy watching this Arsenal team, the defense still has the leaky brain fart moments, and the offense is just a bore to watch for the majority.

I didn't see the game today, but here's my guess. We've struggled mightily to create goals through the middle of the field since Cesc left. Wenger has reverted to a style of play that was similar to our early noughties teams, which means we get the ball wide to the wingers, who pump in low crosses to players in the box. The problem with this is two-fold. In our system, there is only ever one striker in the box at a given time. Secondly, our problem is that we move the ball far to slowly. Literally every player we have save for Arteta and Cazorla is slow in moving possession, and rather slow in receiving it. We can't outskill teams, so we try to outrun them, but we don't have the requisite technique to take advantage of our athleticism. Arteta and Cazorla link well because they understand the field holistically. Most of our other players don't.

Seriously, not one player on our team looked worthy of playing on the winning Arsenal teams of yesteryear. Not one.

Disagree, Giroud was amazing today, even with zero service from the wings. Per was great again, Kos was great besides that whiff of a shot (but he's a CB not a striker)

You have a loose definition of the word amazing.

He had some good moments (backheel flicks and whatnot) but also had sloppy touch at times.

Crazy, I kind of agree with you. Again, not sure what Arsene is thinking. It's frustrating seeing Ramsey and Gerv get the ball because things slow to a crawl every time.

He was one of the most important people on defending their corners, He was the relief valve for the crowded midfield, everyone else just passed the ball back to the defender they got it from, he turned it into an attack, his cross is why Kos was free in the box and should have scored.. by far our MotM

Proof of the Ramsey bias, /r/gunners is presented with this stat.

quote:

Since the start of last season, Arsenal's Premier League win % with Ramsey starting is 41% compared to 71% with him not in the first 11.

Downvoted at a 2:1 ratio.

We actually pumped more high crosses than low ones...but other than that, fairly spot on.

I know he gets reamed, and had a bad touch or two today, but I think we should seriously consider starting Arshavin in a match. He was in there 15 minutes and created just as many dangerous moments as anyone else today.

The key to beating us is pressuring Arteta. It was so clear that we needed someone to break their high pressing and that Ramsey wasn't the guy for it. Wilshere really should have gotten a runout in the last 15-20. They played so high there was tons of space whenever a midfielder turned and beat his marker, but that happened really rarely.

I honestly don't buy that the squad overall is average. Sure, we lack depth and could certainly improve, but I think the problems is tactical. We have France' #1 striker at the moment, a guy who has 100+ caps for Germany, a Spanish international midfielder, 5 of England's brightest young talents, the best RB in the EPL (when healthy), etc. etc. The talent is there. Hell, even the effort is there. They just aren't a very cohesive unit. There are some dead weight players who should and will move on shortly who are preventing us from acquiring more talent and a couple talents who I'm pretty close to giving up on (Ramsey and Gervinho), but that lineup we put out today talent-wise is good enough to get a result against anybody, and really should have against a young team like AVFC.

if you put me on that squad I promise you I could dribble out of bounds just as well as Gervinho. I might even make a decent pass or two before running out of bounds, even.

Doubt you'd have 5 goals and 1 assist on the season though!

problem was we werent keeping the ball. that is a major fail for santis play. He could never really get into the game and be a diff maker in the attack.

overall boring. Glad to see gibbs back as i still think he can have a bright future if he stays healthy. Need sagna 100% to provide a better attack down the rt.

I may be wrong but hasn't Giroud started over Benzema the past couple of games? he isn't as good as Benzema so I admit to misleading some haha. Still, the point remains. Plenty of talent in our top XI.

edit: I was mistaken. He just started the Italy match. Benzema started Spain, both started vs. Japan.

Considering we have some substantial powder to throw around in January, I would be beyond displeased if that was one of our signings.

The word is we will be signing someone from Germany. Huntelaar's a fair bet, though I wish we'd sign a more versatile forward player. We spent a lot of cash on Giroud and he's been coming good of late. KJH isn't a significant enough upgrade to justify both his cost and the loss of value from Giroud playing less. I don't think he's been our problem. A left back and a midfielder or wide player would work fine for me. That and paying Theo a damn fair rate are my priorities for January.
