Regardless, whether it's one or two is kind of pointless considering it's less than TV5 has made.

It's nearly the same in not even half as many games..

Honestly though the three of them are all pretty damn close in skill... Dempsey captures my feelings on which pairing we put out pretty well here.

TV5 made at least 2 yesterday. Terrible pass to Kos and switched off on the goal. Not to mention he left us hanging bombarding forward multiple times. Add that to the PK versus Montpelier, the foul which lead to the Mata goal because he went bombing forward, and a couple of others and he's been our weakest link IMO.

Maybe I'm just getting fed up with TV5's adventurous side. With how we are set up and organized now, we a) don't need him to make those runs if we're tied or if we're up and b) really don't need Arteta having to drop back into the CB position while he jogs back.

What was Dempsey arguing there?

No I agree with everything you are saying. Verminator makes too many mistakes. Per and Kos would be our best pairing but Vermaelen is captain so we are stuck with him starting. He would have to have quite a few bad games in a row before Wenger would ever consider benching him.

Anyway Vermaelen could just play LB? I know Gibbs is having a decent year, but moving him there would give him the ability to venture forward without being such a liability in the middle.

Just a thought.

Gibbs has been one of our best players. TV5 isn't a good attacking defender from the wing.

If Gibbs gets hurt or needs rest I'd much rather Verm out wide than Santos though.

I don't know...width in our attack has been key. Depends on the opponent and our other personnel, I suppose.

Verm can play left, has for Arsenal, Belgium and Ajax. But we have a nice rotation with the three cbs. Verm just needs to stay back more.

Would mess up the 3 man rotations going on right now with the CBs and the WBs.

If Verm were a little less adventurous going forward I'd be happier, but I'm not prepared to say he's trash just because he goes all YaYa up the middle...

I realize this. But Santos is a better attacking wing back and our fullbacks have been really important to our attack. TV5 was hit or miss at LB last year. Didn't offer much going forward and his positioning cost us a couple of times.

This. Vermaelen is a very average left back.

Agreed. Gibbs has played very well so far. I see no reason at all to prefer TV5 over him.

Gibbs has been nothing short of outstanding this year. He is still learning and he will get caught out every once in a while but that is why Arteta is there for cover. In fact both of our young fullbacks have been in great form and even the England national team has taken notice.

Yep. An area of concern has become one of pretty decent strength so far. In fact I'd say Gibbs is a top 4 LB right now maybe higher. Only Baines and Cole are clearly better. Just my completely biased/homer opinion of course.

And considering Ashley Cole just called the FA a bunch of twats... Gibbs might be looking at some playing time soon

Shocking...

England needs new, less douchey blood on the squad. He would be good cover for Baines.

Nah I completely agree with you. Gibbs has been one of the best left backs in the EPL this year.
